In Guildford yesterday to have lunch with mon amie française Marie we were witness from afar, as were all for miles around, to a huge industrial fire in a waste facility in the adjoining area of South Guildford. Pallets of compressed plastic and compressed cardboard blocks destined for recycling fueling the fire. It was quite something to watch, if you are interested you can read about it and see the fire here. The billowing smoke changing direction with the wind gave an insight into some of the unimaginable difficulties the fire fighters and volunteers who are dealing with horrendous fires blazing around the world right now have to deal with. Was a bit worried about the helicopter below, it seemed to get too close but it probably just looked that way from my perspective. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..
I saw the smoke when I left work, and I had heard about it on the news. Another awful day for the firefighters.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is really something to see. How awful for those firefighters.
ReplyDeleteSo many fires everywhere and droughts elsewhere, not good. Trying to catch up!! Diane
ReplyDeleteYuck
ReplyDeleteThe smoke in the 1st pic looks quite widespread, Grace!
ReplyDeleteYou were THERE!
ReplyDeleteThat is terrible for those brave firefighters.
ReplyDeleteOh, horrible, Grace!
ReplyDeleteThanks to all those firefighters! For all their partners who bare the fear. I was always beside myself when the sirens went on and Ingo went. I am so glad he is too old for that now.
Snap. A curious fire in our local park yesterday. Photo at some time in the future, but it wasn't nearly as spectacular as yours. The smoke from waste burning can be very toxic, as our firefighters are finding out now from a waste fire.
ReplyDeleteIf they were burning plastic would've it have been a yucky smell? I'm amazed it was being done at all considering the fires in Queensland.
ReplyDeleteQuite a job for the firefighters to put out.
ReplyDeleteFirefighters do such great work for us. Volunteers are amazing!
ReplyDeleteMust have been a serious fire. Glad you were not any closer than you were.
ReplyDelete...not the blowing in the wind that I had in mind!
ReplyDeleteThese waste facilities seem to catch fire fairly regularly. I have huge respect for the firefighters who tackle these blazes.
ReplyDeleteFires are very frightening, we had one next door not so long ago...!
ReplyDeleteUm incêndio com um foco de poluição.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

Looks like the whole world is clouded in smoke.
ReplyDeleteFires are horrible ... they destroy whatever they have in their path!
ReplyDeleteI've heard the blacker the smoke, the hotter the fire. I'm super worried about the koalas. What have you heard?
ReplyDeleteJanis GDP
Hats off to the firefighters. Paid firefighters get paid to face danger, Volunteers do it for free.
ReplyDeleteBusy time for firefighters in Australia even without this fire.
