Two very different reflections, both on St. Georges Terrace. Above reflected in the window of a cafe the heritage listed Old Perth Boys School... and below a very tall and skinny moi, look for the black and white spots :) reflected in the glitz that is the QV1 building, with a glimpse of the Charles Perry sculpture 'Enigma' to the right. It's been a sweltering week here in Perth but it looks like we're in for a bit of relief over the next few days, maybe even a bit of rain.. hallelujah! Have a good weekend, take care and stay safe...

Summer lovin' bougainvillea..
Yesterday's post was all about colourful explosions of the man made kind.. today it's a vibrant burst of mother nature's glory! If it hadn't been for the splendiferous mass of summer lovin' Bougainvillea hanging over the red brick wall this old lane-way sprinkled with graffiti in Mount Lawley would have looked a wee bit sad on a hot, humid day. Several bougainvillea and hibiscus in my garden never disappoint in the colour they reward me with at this time of the year. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...

Skyworks.. a baker's dozen!
After traipsing around Kings Park and the city all day on Tuesday I had zero energy to head back in for the City of Perth Skyworks in the evening. Thankfully my brother-in-law Bill did and has very kindly let me use his captures for the night to highlight the pyrotechnical brilliance of the show. The hard part for me was choosing thirteen out of the 200 fabulous shots he took.. this is the difference between using knees as a tripod and actually using a tripod :) I hope you enjoy, merci beaucoup Bill. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe... p.s. you have no idea how tempted I was to play with the shot above and add in stems, it sort of looks like a bunch of flowers don't you think!

Waiting for the fireworks!
We took a trip to Kings Park yesterday morning to see how Elizabeth Quay was preparing for it's big opening on Friday evening, it's a long way from finished but it doesn't look too bad.. now, before all the high-rise gets built around the inlet, shame that has to happen :) You can see the boats on the river getting into prime position to watch the City of Perth Skyworks, the culmination of the Australia Day celebrations.
Walking up Fraser Avenue there were already people getting their spots organised under the shade of the old lemon scented gum trees that line the avenue, not too shabby a view oui! Although it was good to see the diversity of nationalities finding their spots together under the blue WA skies, all there together to celebrate the same event, at this point in time there was an integral section of Australian society missing. That could be because there were still EIGHT hours to wait until lift-off.. there's no way I could have sat there that long :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...p.s. big catch up today!

This vibrant 'fire-engine' red mural in Mount Lawley by multi talented Perth artist Daek William whose work you have seen here many times, impossible to forget this astounding endeavour, was commissioned by three of Perth's finest career firefighters from the Perth Fire Station, brings back happy memories of a certain calendar :) who three years ago opened a now hugely successful cafe aptly named Engine Room Espresso. Kudos to William who was still painting when I took these shots yesterday on an unbearably hot and humid day, I look forward to making a return visit when StandBy is up and running. Have to say this was a brilliant start to my week! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe... p.s. it's a happy Australia Day holiday today!

Red bulls on the beach..
It's a two way system we have working here on City Daily Photo.. just as your images of snow in the northern hemisphere really make my day in our too hot summer.. I'm very envious of your wonderful snow images, I like to return the favour and hopefully cheer up your day with our blue skies. I had breakfast with my sisters over the weekend at Kailis Trigg Beach cafe, it so happened that the Red Bull Two Fin competition was in progress at the same time.
Oh look! I had no idea that was going to happen :) I hope these images 'warm the cockles of your heart' :) Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

Chapels on Whatley...
Reflections of the Maylands railway station in the window of Chapels on Whatley. After perusing Chapels website we set off to continue the quest to discover and share the diversity of eateries in Perth. Since it was built 100 years ago as a haberdashery this building has been used for everything from local greengrocer to funeral parlour.. now cafe and tea emporium it was well worth the trip. Surrounded by exotic colour I threw caution to the wind and instead of my usual poached eggs on toast I devoured every mouthful of the French toast/caramel sauce/banana and cream, centre stage below, and left with a tin of Chapels Silk Oolong tea, not only delicious but a metabolism booster also.. win, win :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. when we lived in the middle of Africa I loooved going into the haberdashery store, who agrees we should have a haberdashery revival :)

Revolutions.. A long hard road.
Less needy than horses
less difficult than camels..
Revolutions Transport Museum at Whiteman Park is a veritable feast of colour, shapes and shadows, a photographer's delight! Bicycles have been around in one form or another since the 1800's and although they looked bl----y uncomfortable back then, even now you have to get your 'saddle derriere' broken in :) Look at the lovely old leather Australian Post bag up there, another time, another world!
Unfortunately I couldn't see the etched glass advertising on the tram windows and the decorative frieze on the ceiling 'echoing the prosperity of the 1890's gold discoveries' mentioned below, I would have loved that. It's the first time in ages that I've been to Whitemans Park, hope you enjoyed the trip with me :) Bon Weekend, take care and stay safe...

Whiteman Park.. Conserving the past.
The blue and white jalopy suspended in mid-air to advertise the Motor Museum at Whiteman Park isn't defying gravity, just a nifty bit of touch-up by yours truly.. it sits atop an ugly metal support which I couldn't resist zapping into obscurity, pretty neat huh :) Whiteman Park, named after Lew Whiteman, covers 4,000 hectares of natural bush land 22km north of the city. Dedicated to 'the education and conservation of environmental, transport and cultural heritage', the park attracts thousands of tourists, locals and school groups every year.
The Print Shop above, where I believe the old presses are still used to print wedding invitations and personalised stationary.. how cool to see the old printing presses in action.. unfortunately closed! We were a bit early :) The sign above, circa1901, made me smile..forbidden! 'females of doubtful reputation'.. I might not have been able to go in anyway :)
Most popular with young visitors is the Bennett Brook Railway line that runs steam and diesel trains around the park, Unfortunately only 'Ashley' the little blue train that could :) pulled into the station while we were there, not a puff of steam to be seen. Possibly the biggest draw for overseas tourists is the Caversham Wildlife Park, we didn't go in this time but it really is a treat if you have never come face to face with Australia's unique wildlife. I'm saving my own personal favourite exhibition for last, let's just say 'the wheels go round and round' .. no it's not the motor museum above :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...
