Robots running amok..

A few fun murals found in The Robot Bun Factory in Midland. Have just read on their Facebook page that they have had to close their doors earlier in the month.. it's tough times for so many small businesses but they hope to come back in the near future "kind of like a robot rising from the ashes" :) Hope your week is going well, take care and stay safe..

Reflecting on Sculpture by the Sea..

A few last shots from this year's Sculpture by the Sea on Cottesloe Beach. The location as always is spectacular, the artists couldn't wish for a more fabulous backdrop to show their creations. Not as many entries, not as big a crowd.. next year I predict it will be bigger and better than ever! Above reflections in the sculpture by Tasmanian artist Hugh McLachlan, more of his work HERE and full sculpture top left hand corner below. Although I haven't covered this event as well as previously it is still worth while embiggening the collages to see the work in more detail. Hope you are happy and well, take care and stay safe..

FATBTMGRL(s)

Couldn't resist a quick fun post, taken on the way home from eye check-up appointment today. This one is especially for friend and fellow Perth blogger Sami who enjoys collecting shots of weird and wonderful personalized car number plates and for Iris who loves Queen and Freddie as much as I do. It made me smile hope it does the same for you :) Take care and stay safe.. P.s. in case you haven't heard FBG's :)

Long neck turtle..

On an early morning walk around Bibra Lake on Sunday I was pleased to discover the simple but beautiful depiction of the southwestern long neck turtle endemic to this part of WA. As part of the preservation program for the long-neck turtles the City of Cockburn have installed several nesting cages along the fringe of the lake to help protect the threatened reptiles from their many predators. I did see the cages along the walk wish I had taken some pics. Check out the short video of the turtles at Bibra Lake HERE, would love to see one, they're kinda cute :) Take care and stay safe..

A multitude of reflections..

Oh such fun with this sculpture :) Another piece from Sculpture by the Sea on Cottesloe Beach this year. Titled 'Monumental #1' it was created by Singaporean contemporary sculptor and installation artist Chee Kiong Yeo. Stretching up into the blue skies the super shiny stainless steel shapes generate a magnitude of reflections back along the pier..

With so many images of gloriously shiny ball-like spheres, the temptation to play was irresistible :) Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

Life's a beach..

Can there possibly be anything more therapeutic when you have a lot on your mind than sitting on a bench under the shade of a tree watching the waves crash onto the rocks and pound onto the beach.. I think not. City Beach is where you would have found me doing just that this morning. Aimee always says the beach is her happy place, it is fast becoming mine also..

Had a pretty clear view of the lighthouse and the ferry heading over to Rottnest Island. The cloud hovering above almost mirroring the shape of the island made me smile :) Hope your week is going well, take care and stay safe..

Weedy seadragon..

Was lovely to discover the gorgeous seahorse/dragon here at Fremantle Harbour.. would much rather come face to face with one of these fascinating sea creatures that one of these :) The weedy seadragon here, endemic to Australian waters, short video HERE to show how hard it would be to spot one of these flimsy beings, was painted by one of my favourite Perth artists Brenton See. Thank you for being patient with me, I'm doing the best I can right now but hope to be back to full posting and visiting at the beginning of May. Take care and stay safe..

Sun going down on a 40 degree day..

"A large drop of sun lingered on the horizon and then dripped over and was gone, and the sky was brilliant over the spot where it had gone, and a torn cloud, like a bloody rag, hung over the spot of its going".. John Steinbeck

I couldn't have expressed it better :) There is nowhere finer to be than sitting on the beach watching the sun go down after another 40C day, the last for this year hopefully, or any day really. The sound of the waves lapping the shore, the ever changing colours soothe the soul, bliss 💛 Wishing you a safe and happy weekend..

Birds and the bees..

Another colourfully bold and beautiful mural on Lake Street by Susan Respinger not far from the portrait mural I showed HERE. Philly the willie wagtail is a regular around the cafes here, not sure about the blue banded bee, I would love to spot one but as yet no luck. I was unaware that the flowers known to moi as everlastings are also known as immortelle flowers, you learn something everyday oui :) Take care and stay safe..

Sculpture by the Sea 2022..

It's that time of the year again.. Sculpture by the Sea, where local, national and international artists display their work on Cottesloe Beach, you couldn't ask for a more stunning backdrop. Understandably there are not as many contributing artists as in past years before Covid, but still a  wonderful event to visit. Two of my favourite sculptures today, I always look forward to seeing the whimsical wonder created by Ayad Alqaragholli, I'm sure you will recognise more of his work HERE. The joyful piece here is titled 'Our Love Touches the Sky'.. undoubtedly the world is in need of both, more love and joy at the moment..

Below the wire sculpture titled 'Indiana' by WA artist Tania Spencer is both exquisite and a little sad to see. The work modeled on the Indiana Teahouse recently added to the state heritage register that may or may not save it from the machinations of change that would leave only its facade as a reminder of its iconic presence on Cottesloe Beach. The video HERE is the new vision for the Indiana, what do you think? Take care and stay safe..

'It's ok to be not ok' ..

The March theme for City Daily Photo bloggers around the world is solitude.. a state of solitude or isolation. Here along the banks of the Swan River a lone blue tree in amongst its green companions. Did you know that the original blue tree, now happening all around the world, was painted here in WA in the country town of Mukinbudin 298 km east of Perth. You can see a picture of the original tree and read how it came about HERE, a vitally important story that should be given our full attention. Take care and stay safe..
