A moment of contemplation..

One of those quick shots clicked while walking by.. the young lady here deep in thought, not a mobile in sight, her faithful companion standing guard at her side. There is a lot to contemplate in these uncertain times, she picked a pretty spot to do so. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

In the dog box..

Look at all those sad eyes! Now and then I will hear about a new piece of street art and go in search of it, usually with a stop for coffee along the way :)  but more often than not I come across them by luck. Yesterday we went for a walk around Lake Gwelup and found a super cute Splash of Colour utility box painting by Otto Art. Why so sad guys, you are right next to an off the lead nature walk around the lake.. perfect spot for this mural. Hope you had a good weekend, happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

The Pinnacles.. walking on the moon.

On the way home from Lesueur National Park (yesterday's post) on Wednesday we stopped in Nambung National Park to see the Pinnacles. A surreal sight it was, the weathered limestone pillars, some small and squat some tall and thin, some of the tallest reaching up to 7mt, stretched out over a vast area as far as the eye could see. We were the only ones there and quietly standing amongst these bizarre formations was an otherworldly experience. There are three major theories as to how and why the pinnacles formed, if you are interested that info is HERE..

It's hard to imagine that a sign would be required but this is the world we live in.. I have to admit the French instruction made me smile :) Happy Friday, hope you have a good weekend, see you on Monday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. can you imagine how cool it would be to take photos here at sunrise or sunset, would look amazing.

Lesueur National Park..

Country trip yesterday to Lesueur National Park, a 500 km round trip Setting off at 8am arriving home 6pm. We are a week or so away from official spring in Australia, you know what that means.. wildflower season :) Driving up along the coast road we were never far from the Indian Ocean on one side, bush and farming land on the other. Below just a few of the flowers we saw and a few shots along the way. There was another reason for this trip, something that unbelievably in all the years we have been here I haven't seen before.. show you tomorrow. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Did I mention it was the perfect blue sky coming up for the end of winter day!

Four in two out..

Spotted the Little Free Library in Maylands when I was taking mon amie française Marie home and as she had just returned to moi the four books I had lent her we stopped to put said four books into the little library and took two out, fair exchange :) I love the idea of these well used little libraries and should imagine for those who can't get to a big library they could be a lifesaver. As yet I have not come across any of these tiny book holders that have been vandalised, one should never underestimate the power of books :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Red-tailed black cockatoo..

In Subiaco to have brunch with Aimee at the weekend I was unaware of and delighted to find a new and fabulous red-tailed black cockatoo mural painted by WA artist James Giddy whose murals 'can be found throughout Western Australia, in New South Wales, Queensland as well as internationally in India, America, South Africa and Indonesia'. You may also remember the murals to the side painted in 2017 by Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel that I posted on the blog HERE. In the last shot the view from our table in my new favourite Subiaco cafe Mimosa, diagonally opposite the restaurant in yesterday's post, all round it was a good weekend :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

George's Mezé..

'A taste of Greece in the heart of Subiaco'. That is George's Meze looking wonderfully Mediterranean under Perth skies in it's blue and white paintwork, gorgeous red and pink geraniums blooming beautifully in their pots. Despite the many changes going on all around it this lovely old Subi house with it's lovely gardens has been here as long as I can remember. It has been a while since we last enjoyed a meal here but we were in Subiaco for another reason which I'll show you tomorrow. All I can think about now though is the multilayered sweet lusciousness of a Baklava, I just know I will have to do something about that today :) Hope you had a good weekend, happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

Art-chitecture..

We were in the city on Sunday to experience 'Evanescent', the blending of art and architecture created by Atelier Sisu. Their work 'endeavours to be visually engaging and intellectually elegant in nature, providing a unique spatial experience for its visitors'. The 20mt long art-chitectural installation of oversized inflatable spheres is just one of the light displays in the Winter Lights Festival at Brookfield Place. Surrounded by skyscrapers the ever changing colours and patterns of Evanescent will surely provide the perfect photo-op for many.. but be quick, two more days and it will be gone! Hope you have a super weekend, catch you on Monday..happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

Koolangka Bridge..

We were back in Kings Park yesterday to take some shots of  The Kids' Bridge (excellent aerial view on link) opened a few weeks ago. The three metre wide, 217-metre long pedestrian bridge provides access from Perth Children's Hospital to Kings Park. A wonderful facility to provide a connection to the restorative powers of nature for sick children, their families and the wider community that work and visit the children's hospital and Queen Elizabeth ll Medical Centre..

The best view from above is on the bridge link at beginning of post but below you can see the bridge crossing busy Winthrop Avenue before disappearing into the native bushland of Kings Park. Please don't stress about the colours, a lot of thought was put into this construction and remember it is all about the sick children, colour makes children happy 💙 I enjoyed walking across, look at all those fabulous future shadow shot possibilities :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

View through the trees..

High up in Kings Park is without doubt one of the best spots to view the city, top spot in the day and equally so at night just a lot harder to take that shot especially when you consistently forget to take a tripod :) I always enjoy adding the majestic lemon scented gum trees that line Fraser Avenue into the composition, they look amazing lit up after dark. Back into the daylight tomorrow, happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Ghostly sentinels..

In the city on Sunday evening to take some shots of a fabulous new light installation which I'm saving for Friday, I couldn't resist a quick stop on the way home to take a few pics of my favourite trees lining Fraser Avenue in Kings Park. The majestic lemon scented gum trees were planted in 1938 to replace the red flowering gums planted in 1898 which were affected by patch canker disease, sounds nasty! Not quite one hundred years old but closer than not :) Will show a few city shots through the trees tomorrow. Sorry I haven't been around the last few days, circumstances beyond my control, will catch up with you today. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Carrying the world on its back..

Bugs, birds and bees painted by @ketones6000 aka Jerome Davenport brighten up the day wherever you find them, as they do here on a public piano in Brookfield Place or below in a quiet corner of the Perth Cultural Centre. His use of soft luminous colours is a delight to see. Hope you had/are still having a good weekend, happy Monday, take care and stay safe..
