Whether you enjoy contemporary art or not you can't deny the beauty of the outdoor gallery that is Cottesloe Beach. We weren't sure if 'Hush' above, created in aluminum and gold leaf by WA artist Olga Cironis was an inter-active piece or not.. it is, the next time you see it it will have a young lady with flowing red hair sitting hoping to 'feel the unbridled wind, the ocean pounding on the shore'.. and a beautiful sunset thrown in would be parfait :)
Above "Echoes lll, lV and V' created in dingo proof fencing wire by WA artist Sally Stoneman.. and below 'Viral Escapade' by Tas/New Sealand artist Marcus Tatton.. a current predicament..
Below 'StarMan' in bronze and steel by Victorian artist Michael Sibel.. the artist 'encourages the audience to reach for ideas and connections that lie beyond our reach'..
Below 'Sea Enemies 5' materials used, salvaged fishing ropes and net, ocean detritus, steel round bar frame and created by WA artist Merle Davis.. 'references sea anemones and all sea life threatened by careless dumping of rubbish, particularly plastic, into the ocean'..
Everything about the piece below made me smile.. including the artist's name.. Portugal/NSW artist or artists Cool Shit :) Titled 'Homer Homer' the artist's statement simply 'Old story, New hero'!
I confess to 'sometimes' being an art pleb, my first though here was 'I could do with a Mr Whippy right now' :) but this is a serious work below by Capto Collaborative, the piece 'Shell Resonance' utilises a sinking arm, conch shell and small speakers to distort the myth and reflect on what the ocean truly sounds like ..plastic'..
Finishing today with the fabulous 'Lair II' created in cotton string, galvanised steel wire, turnbuckles and tent pegs by WA artist Britt Mikkelsen. The artist's statement 'spider webs are objects of intricacy and beauty found in every Australian household, yet spiders are still reviled and feared. Recreated on a human scale this artwork entices the viewer to enter the lair and experience the spiders point of view'.. I didn't :) Hope you are still enjoying the environmentally themed artworks here on the beach, few more tomorrow. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..
...WOW and the show keeps going on!
ReplyDeleteLots of fun art here, love it. Re the cough, I also sneeze often (always have done) so I am just trying to stay at home before I scare the whole of the Charente 😊 Take it easy and have a good weekend. Diane
ReplyDeleteBeautiful artwork.
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few environmental messages in these pieces. I love the Sea Enemies 5 and the Shell Resonance. What a wonderful show.
ReplyDeleteThe artwork is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI always love it when you show this exhibit, Grace! I really like the Echoes from this bunch.
ReplyDeleteGosh I love the whimsy and your visual narrative!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see Homer haha
ReplyDeleteWonderful pieces!
Wonderful sculptures. How creative they all are, especially Sea Enemies. The name made me smile. The spider web is a bit creepy. I kept thinking of the size of spider that spun that web. Homer/Homer also made me laugh. Have a great weekend and stay healthy.
ReplyDeleteI like them all, the homer is one of a sense of humour and the others are all unique in their own ways, my favourite is the sea anenomes simply because of their colour.
ReplyDeleteHomer was my favourite.
ReplyDeleteHello Grace,
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice pictures of all these creations. So special and very funny to see these figures.
Shot 7 is so nice with the big eyes.
Greetings, Marco
Very fun beach sculptures, and some thought provoking. I wonder if the artist could have guessed the significance of the timing with the "Viral Escapade" artwork?
ReplyDeleteAll wonderful works of art captured beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI guess I know that lady ;-) Looking forward to see her!
ReplyDeleteGrace :-) Dingo-proof! We were on Fraser Island in 1995. Signs everywhere to keep your stuff inside.
One couple let a bag of toilet paper sit outside. Guess, the dingos had some fun. And we later, too. They, though... were very emberassed :-)
Funny memories!
Yes, sad how a lot of people treat our planet, unthoughtful.
Homer Homer :-) Some lady sure loved him!
The sinking arm is sad. I sometimes wonder how long an artist dwells on his themes. It must be hurtful at times.
Haha. You find spider webs in this household, too! I always freaked out, but Ingo said:
a) shows we have a healthy climate here (wooden floors)
b) they eat other insects.
I still freak out but let some be.
Alguns trabalhos muito interessantes.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

Love them all, they are wonderful to see!
ReplyDeleteThey are all great Grace. How timely is Viral escapade. I like Homer too. Hope your cough is a bit better. Sadly Karina is no longer coming tomorrow. The Philippines president has imposed a lockdown in Manila and flight restrictions from Sunday for a whole month. She wasn't sure she would be able to return next week, so was going to reschedule for September. Hopefully it will all be back to normal by then.
ReplyDeleteIt is as gorgeous as every year! What a bummer that I couldn't see it last year (my pancreas bellyache). But maybe next year again. (I didn't book now, we`ll see what happens)
ReplyDeletewonderful
ReplyDeleteFabulouse exhibition !
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, Grace !
The spiders web is awesome.
ReplyDeleteBeach and art...a lovely combo!!
ReplyDeleteOh! surreal!
ReplyDeleteThere are surréalisme. ;)
