The first time I saw the above artwork I thought of JM in Lisbon and his series of decay images. It is complex, it is mysterious, it is richly colourful and it's in much need of repairs! The 'wall' above and the section below (would love it if you would embiggen and be enthralled by the detail as I was) on the exterior of Gino's on South Terrace in Fremantle is an ongoing 'mini architectural fantasy' created by Australian artist Horatio T Birdbath (excellent short video). When asked 'how long have you been working on this' he replied 'since the beginning'! As you can see a big part of the mural has been damaged by damp and there is an ongoing dispute with Fremantle City Council to work with Mr. Birdbath, j'adore :) to repair this unique work.. Have a fab Thursday, take care...

It's quite visually intricate work that he does, Grace.
ReplyDeleteThe complexity of the images really adds to the overall impression. Great images!

"Since the beginning" - I love it, Grace! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful--not like as some so-called artists, who pile manure in a gallery and call it art!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome, Grace, and I can only repeat what the others have written!! I love it, too!! Incredible detail!!
ReplyDeleteOh no for a second I thought it was Monday all over again! This is smashing!
ReplyDeleteFantastic artwork and I love his name as well!
ReplyDelete'since the beginning' - the best answer ever, non, Grace? :-)
ReplyDeleteMr. Birdbath (I love that name), has a very special gift. I did make the photos larger and I studied the bottom photo for a very long time. I wished I had a magnifying glass handy to check all those intricate details more closely. It's one of those pieces that would give you an endless amount of pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI think the work deserves gallery space, rather than just be considered street art.
ReplyDeleteWater has destroyed a lot of painting, it is the enemy of what supports the paint.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you "see" things in your city and relate them to us!!
ReplyDeleteMr. Birdbath isn't just a little bit eccentric, is he?
ReplyDeleteHey;
ReplyDeleteI found one of my pin hole photos and posted it on my blog, have a look.

Oh my gosh, the detail is totally worth the close-up! Mr. Birdbath is something else:) It takes a certain mind to think of that!
ReplyDeleteFantastic mural. I can't imagine the amount of work and time that went into it.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Horatio Thunder Birdbath but I pronounce it Horatio Thunderbird Bath; but you can call me Phoenix for short - yes, I watched the video and loved it. Can you imagine if we were all able to select our own names? What a long and convoluted mess they would be.
ReplyDeleteCrap.
DeleteYou're not me.
You do this kind of bullshit often,Pasadena Adjacent?
You got issues?
Anyone who calls him (or possibly her) self Horatio T. Birdbath is a friend of mine. I'd love to see this.
ReplyDeleteQuintessential eccentric artist!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful artist - Freo should get it's act together before it's too late. What a character, looks very much like a guy who came into my gallery in the '80s - called himself 'Barnham' !!
ReplyDeleteGee there is indeed some serious dedication and time in these pieces Grace. Bravo to the artist. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic work Grace - I really appreciate your posting! Thank you! Joy x
ReplyDeletePS We have rain and wind today - have you had any wet stuff yet?
Just amazing !
ReplyDeleteBien amicalement.
XO
Roger
Merci.
DeleteI like it!:)
ReplyDeleteYou have really put Perth on SO many people's maps! And now the world is looking at your part of the world and your magnificent military folk.......This are inspires
ReplyDeleteI love this stuff!
ReplyDeleteI guess if I had a name like Horatio Thunder Birdbath, or Horatio Thunderbird Bath. I'd be eccentric as well. I hope they city does restore it. This kind of public art should be treated like a treasure.
I did "embiggen" the photos! I love that word.
Thanks for all the comments folks.
ReplyDeleteFake Horatio T. Birdbath ( Jan.15th 2020)..Could I suggest you grow up.
