Fly by wrecking crew...!


I used to get so fed up with the flocks of WA Carnaby Black Cockatoos that would land in my bottlebrush and within minutes have every seed and flower off the tree.. that was until I discovered they are on the endangered list due to clearance of their natural feeding and nesting habitat in the wheatbelt region. Now when the tree flowers I put up a sign.'breakfast this way', it's the least I can do :) The Red Tailed Cockatoo below is found in abundance all over Australia. I couldn't find a signature on this mural in Northbridge, but if it makes people aware of the plight of the WA black cockatoo I like it even more. I had a tooth implant yesterday so am feeling pretty sorry for myself :( hope your day was a little more fun, take care... p.s. I don't think the chap below was keen to be in my shot :D

    I think there is an Australia wide shortage of tree hollows for all manner of animals to nest in, from cockatoos to possums. Clear felling of trees and destroying old growth forest has shrunk animal habitats significantly, so even if there is enough food, there may not be the places to breed. The Carnaby black cockatoo is quite special.

    They're all canaries in the global "coal mine". Sorry about the tooth. The cure: red wine. (Same for sore muscles, hang nail, fatigue, gimpiness, freckles, etc.)

    I don't think I've ever seen a black cockatoo but I'm betting it's a magnificent looking bird. Great mural. I hope tomorrow has you feeling better.

    It is a striking mural and a beautiful bird. I hope they can find more gardens to feed from. Hope your tooth will heal quickly. My external disk drive died with thousands of photos and files. That makes me feel low too.

    Beautiful mural, Grace - maybe the sun was shining in that guy's eyes??? Maybe he was playing hooky from work - who knows, but he's a bit of an intrusion on your beautiful pic!

    We have Mexican Parrots and are they ever loud. I think this is a charming mural. I'm always drawn to folk art and along with the environmental message - well, lil' lady, ya gots yourself a winner
