I was both delighted and fed up when we were walking along the sea wall behind Aqwa (Aquarium of WA) at Hillarys Boat Harbour over the weekend.. delighted to come across a small flock of Welcome Swallows dancing about on the rocks and tops of nearby boats, fed up because can you believe it.. I didn't have my long lens, bah! Called 'welcome swallows' by sailors in times gone by because the sight of a swallow would mean land ahoy!! I think they're the sweetest little creatures and it makes me happy to see them :) I hope that you see something that makes you happy today, take care and stay safe....

They look so cute, Grace! It's wonderful watching swallows fly around.
ReplyDeleteLove them! They did not leave yet here; Which means it's still hot enough. But it won't be long now before they fly away..
ReplyDeleteSweet!!! I love that they're called Welcome Swallows!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely birds these swallows..... good photo's again.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Joop
Oh they are so sweet, not like ours at all! Smooches! I love swallows!

Now they and you have made us happy!
ReplyDeleteAloha Cheri
Long lens or not the pictures are superb!
ReplyDeleteYour gain and our loss, we do not see swallows again now until next year. have a good day Diane
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the wrong lens. I sometimes think I should carry three cameras with three different lenses. Sometimes I carry a compact camera in my pocket because it has a crazy long lens, much longer than my DSLR.
ReplyDeleteThey are so sweet. Love the name too. Regardless of the lens you certainly got great shots! (Mr. LOL put his back out at weekend. Plenty of ice and visit to chiro y'day. Now he is okay. Thanks for asking. I told him :).)
ReplyDeleteThe Welcome Swallows are beautiful. It took me quite some effort to identify them a few weeks ago. http://highriser.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/day-4-mallacoota-to-merimbula-2009.html I should have had you with me to photograph them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a welcome sight, they are beautiful: thank you Grace! Joy x
ReplyDeleteQuite pleasant birds, too!
ReplyDeleteOur swallows are long gone, probably in central america by now. When they return, we know spring is finally here. Have a happy spring day.
ReplyDeleteWish I had seen some of these cute little guys this morning. I could gave used a chirpy pick me up :-)
ReplyDeleteThose are some nice looking birds.
ReplyDeletethese swallows have adorable little red faces :)
ReplyDeleteI like their coloring.
ReplyDeleteGood shots anyway. I didn't know swallows had a red chest.
ReplyDeleteThey have the air of a human family day out.
ReplyDeleteWe'll not be seeing any more swallows this year in the UK; they've all departed for warmer climes - for which I don't blame them at all.
ReplyDeleteYou did well Grace even with out your long lens. Sweet little birds with a great name.
ReplyDeleteLovely flock of birds enjoying warmer climates.
ReplyDeletewhat cute little things they are! and the name is perfect!
