Kaleidoscopic Aves.....

A psychedelic little 'Lorie' sitting high up in the 'bottle brush' tree in my front garden. The Callistemon flower profusely from spring through to early summer. My bottle brush has had a few 'close calls' over the years with storms breaking branches etc., it's a testament to the resilience of the Australian native plants that it's come through with 'flying colours' :) They do attract many birds, the most impressive being the large flocks of ravenous 'white tailed black cockatoos' that swoop in and raucously attack the tree leaving behind mounds of broken flowers and seeds, quite a sight! Hope you have a fab Friday, take care..  Click here to view all participants of Skywatch Friday

  9. Fantastic bird. I've never seen a bottle brush tree before. Here in the States some people have bottle brush bushes, but nothing as nice as your tree.

  15. As long as he stays right where he is you could say he is nicely camouflaged!

  16. Melbourne's callistemons flowered very well this year. They are quite spectacular. I was about to take you on about the name lorie, but your link explains it. We saw lories in Singapore and they are different. I'd love to see a white tailed black cocky.

  21. I love bottle-brush and this is a gorgeous one. You are lucky to have it growing so close. And, I think you've chosen the perfect word to describe a lorikeet "psychedelic". How can a bird have so many colors going on all at once?

  22. I'm loving this! Wish I had the tree and the bird. Aloha
