After breakfast in Fremantle yesterday we drove out onto the South Mole to take some shots of the green lighthouse and from there over to the red lighthouse on the North Mole. The sky was all over the place, desperately trying to blue up a bit but generally losing the fight to the ominous grey clouds. Had just taken a few shots when look what came chugging around the corner. I have no idea what it was.. could anyone with harbour knowledge enlighten us? It was surrounded by four boats of various sizes, not all visible until the last shot when it turned and sailed almost majestically :) into port. I'm curious, but not curious enough to Google 😊 Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..
I have no idea.
ReplyDelete...I've never seen anything like that i my neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that this is a drilling platform, most likely for oil, or perhaps a drilling platform for geological testing. Interesting series of photos. I always thought the red lighthouse should be on the right side when returning to the harbor.
ReplyDeleteLove that green lighthouse and all the boat activity! Great post!
ReplyDeleteI did some searches and learned that Boskalis is a company that makes heavy transport equipment and Magnor is a dredging unit. Is there some dredging going on along the shore in that area? Whatever it is, it's pretty intimidating looking.
ReplyDeleteI love the face someone painted on the side of that little building in the top photo.
What a nice colour for the lighthouse. I have no idea either but it looks like Sharon found some info.
ReplyDeleteGreen Lighthouse! Activity in the near sea is never boring. So glad it's outside my window again 🚤⛵🏊🏄⚓
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Sharon has your answer, Grace!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what all of this is, but I do like that green lighthouse.
ReplyDeleteThe water craft is almost frightening. I reckon it is to drill but you know my mind goes that way.
ReplyDeleteNever saw a green lighthouse before, only stripes, white, red.
ReplyDeleteLovely specially of the mystery rig in the sea!
ReplyDeleteSharon´s answer sounds logical - I wonder that the statics work, the sea can get pretty rough after all.
ReplyDeleteThe first pic is my favorite, Grace :-)
I thought it might be for drilling but my mariner husband guesses it's for dredging. Pipes go down those towers. It looks like Sharon confirms his assessment.
ReplyDeleteHah, the dutch company Boskalis send one of its great backhoe dredgers to your part of the world to do some precision dredging in not so deep water. Perhaps for a pipeline or clearing a part of the harbor floor but they are really all over the world with their specialized ships. The 3 spuds are to anchor the platform stabilize as a non floating platform above water.
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch are coming in ha,ha! Boskalis is a dutch company, see comment of s.c.
ReplyDeleteLove the green lighthouse. Dredging sounds like it could be right. So much rubbish in the sea these days wonder what they are actually dredging for. Keep well Diane
ReplyDeleteThe green lighthouse is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteprobabilly a drilling platform.. in any case cool picture, the lighthouse is great! ew :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure either but it's an interesting question. I love lighthouses, this one is pretty in green, but as always the water and ships take all the attention too!
