Books, books luvverly books! Dealers in new, used and rare books Barclay Books, housed in the old York Fire Station is a haven for bibliophiles. I am a minimalist in every other area, well perhaps not art, but don't ever ask me to minimize in the book department 😊 I know I'm not alone when I say there is something sublimely comforting knowing there is a world of unread books out there waiting for me :) On this visit I took home a limited edition, English translation, leather bound selection of stories by French author Colette, including her novella Gigi.. can't wait to begin! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..
I could spend hours in there Grace! I love that it is housed in the old fire station.
ReplyDeleteA great use for the building.
ReplyDelete....great little building!
ReplyDeleteI think I could live in a bookstore. Imagine....

Just what you expect of a bookstore.
ReplyDeleteFine looking old building. Always love a good book store, but unfortunately they are disappearing.
ReplyDeleteNothing better than browsing in a library! Hard on the wallet though!
ReplyDeleteBooks are my friends. Most used books here are sold in charity shops. I love it that the bookstore is located in a former fire station.
ReplyDeleteI read all of Colette years ago but don't remember them now - should reread as I still have most of them. I find it hard to get rid of books too since I may want to look at them again!
ReplyDeleteOh wow - I could spend many hours in there.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lucky you! That is a phenomenal purchase! I would love to browse around in this great place.
ReplyDeleteRound here Barclas is a bank chain though I think I prefer yours book shop as they don't rip you off
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a wonderful place!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty building and lovely bookshop Grace.
ReplyDeleteLove book stores and they as you know are increasingly hard to find. I have not read Collette, but I have visited her grave in Paris.
ReplyDeleteWhat a very fine large dog in snow I see as I type my comment. Something went wrong.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good time of the year to be inside in the cool and reading. You know one reason many of those old brick fire stations were given up for use? The fire trucks became too big to get through the openings to the inside.
Wonderful bookstore. Looks like plenty of room for a Type-In.
ReplyDeleteWe have wonderful small book store in our town.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Oooo my type of place. I am trying so hard not to buy many more books, already being the owner of thousands which we are currently packing for the move to the other house. I think books and artwork make a home. Similarly we have stopped buying artwork which unfortunately takes some of the fun out of visiting galleries.
ReplyDeleteDangerous places, Grace! :-)
ReplyDeleteAs is mine for my Nieces. They took home quite a range of books (I admit, I bought for them anyways).
Looks like a magical place. In Alnwick in Northumberland there's a huge second-hand bookshop housed in the former railway station. Google "bookshop Alnwick" to see some amazing photos of it.
ReplyDeleteAmazing
ReplyDeleteLivros um mundo que me encanta, aproveito para desejar uma boa semana.

That is a paradise, I can wander in those shops for hours, but we can't read all helas....:(
ReplyDeleteLove book shops, despite the fact I now travel with a kindle I would never get rid of my books. Have a good day, Diane
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful place. It's wonderful when they put other uses in our old firehouses! One of my favorite restaurants near me is in one.
ReplyDeleteThis spot looks like heaven to me! What a find!
ReplyDeleteI don't often reread my books but still I can't let go of favorites.
