Les chats de la lighthouse...

Yesterday started off with blue skies and sunshine but before long the forecast of wild weather became a reality! As much as I enjoy looking out while cozy indoors my heart breaks at the thought of these little creatures huddled in the crevices of the marina wall. I took these on Monday when I was at the lighthouse and the sun was shining. I console myself with the thought that this could be a prime spot, there is a restaurant close by and it's very popular with fishermen..  they don't look as if they're starving do they? If only people would do the right thing by their pets, and more than anything not dump them when they move or tire of them, I can't even begin to understand that action! It's a tres 'rantable' subject oui! Take care and stay safe..

  1. I saw cats like these all over Greece. Many, I was assured, are cared for. But I suspect many more are not.

  3. I totally agree and will join you in your rant. My friend David has a dog he rescued from a shelter after it was left behind in a foreclosed home. He's such a beautiful dog I can't even imagine anyone leaving him. He has a good home now, that's for sure.

  4. Poor cats, I hope the restaurant looks after them!
At this time of the year I feel sorry for people or animals without a home, very sad!

  5. Oh, yes! I, too, totally agree and join you in your rant!! It does break my heart to see so many cats and dogs that are abandoned! I know I miss my dog SO much after having to have him put to sleep because of injuries he received from being attacked by a vicious dog while we were out for a walk over a year ago. Hope these little ones find plenty of food! Thanks for sharing this!

  6. You're a woman after my own heart Grace!!! My ex husband rescued 3 feral kittens...so small they had just barely opened their eyes, and when they had ringworm as feral cats often do, we dunked them in iodine in coffee cups!!! We even bottle fed them!!! We gave one away, and kept two. One got hit by a car when she was about 6, the other one lived until she was 14 and had kidney failure. Loved those kitties!!!

  7. It seems to be a problem everywhere, Grace. And thankfully there seem to be people who make it their mission to care for these feral cats.

  8. I would need to stay way clear of this place. I have a heart problem and I heart little kittens and I'd probably end up taking them all home...and then what would I do? Yikes!

  9. I can't believe no one has taken those kitties home! That all black one is gorgeous! Please send him to me here in Germany - he can come to my home. :)

  10. RedPat is right... if it's any consolation, and I'm sure it's not, it is a global problem. Among so many other problems. Don't get me started.

  11. Les chats du phare... I'd still rather see cats than street urchins...

  12. I'm with Stuart. Don't get me started on the monsters who do this....

  13. These are fine looking cats, all well fed. If no one is caring for them, then they are doing a fine job themselves. Unfortunately some people don't know how to care for pets, or are irresponsible. There is no excuse for that.

  14. Nice models.
Not so many here, but I have been to Greece and they must have the highest number of cats in Europe.

  16. Those supervisors keep an eye on all the people visiting there, they seem to be eying you especially close, were you obeying all of the signs?

  18. I'm joining in with your rant too Grace - don't let me get started either!!!
Our weather pattern went the same way as yours yesterday - one never can tell: but the winds dried the washing before the rain came - wasn't I fortunate! Joy x

  19. Homelessness is rampant among all species, unfortunately. . .humans and animals both.

  20. I agree with you... they do look like they're in good shape though.

  21. I would have brought them home.

  22. Thanks Grace, you've reminded me of a little story I wrote about 'Two Little Kittens' at Ocean Reef Marina. Good post.

  24. I agree with you Grace. Tres "rantable". When we were in Santorini we befriended a local stray cat and fed it every morning. By the end of the week it was jumping in the window at breakfast time. I hope someone continued feeding Le Chat following our departure.

  25. They are all in good shape, Grace, probably not so a bad place for them...

  26. Hello Grace,
Good shots!! It always bad to see that people left their pets or not will provide them.
    Good that you show this.

    Best regards,
    Marco

  27. They look rather healty, I have seen cats on the streets in Greece and Rome that looked very skinny. But it is a shame they have to live in the streets without a home to go to. At least they have company of other fellows.

  28. I agree with bieb. Those in Rome and Greece are really in a bad condition but not these ones. Still better if they have a house with a caring family.

  29. They all look good and healthy. We've a gazillion street cats, too, and how healthy they are depends on where they roam. I can't even call them "strays" because many of them were born on the streets and were never abandoned in the first place.

  30. these cats are not in poor health

  31. Here kitty, kitty, kitty. They look quite healthy and adoptable. How many did you take home?
I really hate that people do not take proper care of their pet(s).

  32. Same situation in Sweden. People don't seem to care, I have the neighbours cat living with me!

  33. Peple dump dogs and cats here too. What ARE they thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  34. These look to be in good health, at least. But I'm sure they would prefer to have a home with a resident ear scratcher.
