Don't we all know someone who, when they laugh it's so darn infectious you end up laughing along with them even though you're not sure what the joke is :) They may not look as strange as the cutie from yesterdays post but have a listen here, the laugh of the Kookaburra has to be heard to be believed.. it's so hysterical that it's almost impossible not to smile when you hear it! The Kookaburra 'laughs' to establish it's territorial boundaries, the two above were letting the chap below know that this perch above was taken, buzz off!
I hadn't noticed the turquoise blue feathers on the Kookaburra's wings before, tres jolie oui! This week has ziiiiped by in a flash for me, looking forward to a quieter weekend, how about you? Happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. don't let that blue sky fool you, that was Wednesday, it rained bucket-loads all day yesterday!
Always reminds me of the song, then I can't get the melody out of my mind. 8-)
ReplyDeleteThey're quite distinctive looking birds. Yes, I've heard their sound before.
ReplyDeleteI remember a song about the Kookaburra from my childhood....
ReplyDeleteYou made my day, it is a very nice sound!
ReplyDeleteI'm singing the song in my head now! Great shot, Grace.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the birds I have to laugh, make me grace the face
ReplyDeletethey have.
Tomás
They really seem to be laughing ! That's nice!
ReplyDeleteThey do laugh, don't they!! I love it and them! Great post for the day as always and thanks for the smiles and giggles!! I had never seen a Kookaburra before!! Hope you have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny now but I'm not sure I'd want to wake up to it ! Bon weekend Grace.
ReplyDeleteYou got me laughing too!
ReplyDeleteOur family living outside Melbourne are off to China for 3 years! It will be an exciting adventure for them but how can they leave your beautiful Australia :(.
Oh, Grace, do I love the sound of them! We heard them in the wild when travelling your beautiful country. In German they are called "lachender (laughing) Hans" - the ones we have here at the zoo are quiet, no wonder, poor ones.
ReplyDeleteRainy and only 14C over here. Summer?
Excellent bird pictures.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Grace, i've never been much of an "early morning chirpy", but it's hard to start a day without a smile in my dial when one of these are telling me to get over myself!
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me, in your top photo, that they are actually having a gossip ! TY for sharing - lovely wake up call :)
Great photos of this bird. Thanks for the link to their song. That should wake you up in the morning with a smile.
ReplyDeleteProbably why they are called the blue winged kookaburra. I wonder if there is any other kind?
ReplyDeleteOur dogs were not as amused as I when I listened to the link you provided. An unusual bird. . . fun!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid and belonged to a Girl Scout troop, we used to sing a song about kookaburras; "kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, merry, merry king of the bush is he, laugh kookaburra, laugh." I have to say that listening to that video was pure joy. It not only made me smile, it made me laugh too. You are so right, that laugh is infectious.
ReplyDeleteI started chuckling as soon as I saw the first pic! Whoo ho, ha, ha, ha,
ReplyDeleteVery cool. You made my day.
ReplyDeleteAustralia has the funniest birds, hands down, but Costa Rica has the most variety.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I heard the Kookaburra's laugh on a YouTube video and everytime I hear it I can't help but laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteToo funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat great shots! I do love their laugh.
ReplyDeleteWe should all have at least one friend that has an infectious laugh. Great post to start the weekend with Grace.
ReplyDeleteMatilda made me laugh all right, great way to start the day and your photos are lovely, the turquoise is très, très joli !
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of a great little character!
ReplyDeleteWell this is a first. What a fun name...although that "laugh" would get a bit tiresome after awhile! Great post!
ReplyDeleteoh that's funny, they do look like they are laughing!
ReplyDeleteLove Kookaburras, I didn't know they "laughed" to establish their boundaries.
ReplyDeleteThis is an intriguing bird. I used to sing the song with kids, back when I was teaching.
ReplyDelete(ツ) from Cottage Country Ontario , Perth, ON, Canada!
Excellent pictures, Grace, especially the 1st one!
ReplyDeleteThe video made me laugh out loud!
I had not heard that laugh before. What a cool bird!
ReplyDeleteAch!!! Reminds me of Girl Scouts back when I was a munchkin!!! "Kookabura sits in the old oak tree, merry, merry king of the bush is he..." (I totally remembered the first part of this..had to look up the second part of the line though!!!)
ReplyDeleteGay your life must be!
