Le grand Armadillo!

Why do I think Armadillo whenever I see the Bell Tower :) Built on the Swan River foreshore in 2000 to celebrate the millennium at a cost of 5.5 million there was an outcry.. wasteful expenditure etc. Designed by local architects the 'sails' wrapped around both sides harmonize beautifully with the many yachts sailing by on the river, the glass structure providing many opportunities for reflection!

The sails peak at the top viewing area of the tower creating both city and river vignettes. It's getting harder to find that good spot to take a clear shot, the trees have grown up around the tower over the last fourteen years.. below middle is a view up Riverside Drive, with the Supreme Gardens on the right. I'll show you the view from the top tomorrow and then you'll see my idea of wasteful expenditure, any guesses :) Have a good Thursday, take care and stay safe...

  19. Architecturally it's wonderful, but I also think it was far too expensive! Yes, I can just imagine what is the next big expenditure in that area by the Swan Bells....

  22. The armadillos that come around my house at night are quite ugly, which is not a term I would use to describe this beautiful building!

  23. I think you live in a pretty amazing city. If I were younger, I'd hop on a plane to see for myself, but the trip from Minnesota is pretty daunting.
