The cat, the falcon and the dove..

What a commotion in the back garden! The Australian Hobby here had trapped a dove in the hedge, look at those talons! The cat was advancing rapidly on both birds. P dived in, the small falcon flew out, not going far it watched from atop the shed. As P separated the branches the dove flew out, the falcon swooped but the cat was too fast and won the prize! Don't worry, there was a happy ending to this backyard drama. P rescued the shocked dove from the cat, put it in a bucket with food and water, covered the top with a blanket and hung it safely up on the patio beams. In the morning it had recovered and flew off as soon as the cover came off, hopefully to live a long and happy life.. I can hope right :) It's a tough old world out there! Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

  1. ...no dinner for the cat and falcon.

  2. Good you were able to document this drama of nature. The hawk and dove will have to continue their drama elsewhere.

  3. You made both of them go away hungry. Neat looking bird.
I used to love watching the red tail hawks in our back yard in Florida. They'd sit in the palm trees and come swooping down on blue jays when they got hungry. It was even neater watching them swoop from the fence to the screen around our deck for the lizards. They would swoop with talons extended looking just like one of those mean old birds in the comics, and they'd grab a lizard off the screen and never touch the screen! I often wondered which was tastier, a lizard or a blue jay. I never saw the hawk go after the doves.

  4. One lucky bird! The cat and the falcon weren't so lucky.
    Better get a takeaway. :)

  5. Lot's of drama at your house it seems. But you did get some excellent shots of the falcon. I wouldn't want to tangle with those talons. I do love watching nature but you are right, sometimes it can be brutal.

  7. A massacre would have made for better photos. The Falcon looks very regal.

  8. What a commotion in the garden. In the end, the dove was lucky and the rest were unlucky. Nice falcon shots.
