Sculpture by the Sea 2021.. Under the blue sky.

Sculpture by the Sea looks wonderful under the blue sky, so different from last week when I took a few shots on a rainy day. This was Sunday morning at 8am. The majority of sculptures this year are by Australian artists with a sprinkling of New Zealand and overseas artists. It felt right to begin with the sculpture 'Always Was Always Will Be' created in steel armature by self taught Whadjuk Nyoongar artist James Egan, looking out over the coastline that saw the arrival of the British..

The beautifully elegant bronze sculpture below titled appropriately 'Dignity' was created by Japanese artist Yuko Takahashi. The 'Structural Wave' at the end of the pier by WA artist Jarrod Taylor..

A little further along the beach, with perfectly timed waves undulating onto the shore, 'Tidal' created in weathered corten steel by Perth artist April Pine..

Below hanging between the tall Norfolk Island pines the ethereally delicate 'Mantle' created in copper wire by Perth artist Tania Spencer..

NSW artist Lucy Barker created the piece below titled 'Chrysalis' using salvaged electrical cables, bronze, steel and cement. Isn't it sinuously astounding :)

I'll finish today with the stunning sculpture below created in stainless steel by WA artist Tuinna Blackie. Titled The Boab'. This is the artist's first entry into Sculpture by the Sea and was inspired by the giant boab Gija Jumulu that came down from the Kimberley which coincidentally I wrote about recently HERE. Will have a few more for you tomorrow, happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

  3. These are all wonderful but I have to admit that "Mantle" really stirred something in me. It's just so graceful and flower-like. Chrysalis is amazing and mind-boggling and The Boab is beautiful. I'd love to wander among these works of art.
