The Redemptorists..

I have been meaning to stop and take a picture of the Redemptorist Monastery for such a long time, but before you know it ziiip we're past and it's too late. Looking through the trees the monastery, built in 1903 in the Federation Gothic style, a picture here c1905 is unchanged after all this time. If you are interested you can read here about the ethos of the Redemptorist community. I believe there are some wonderful murals inside painted by Austrian artist Karl Matzek, would love to have a squizzy at them. Isn't it amazing finding out new things about the city you have lived in for so many years. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

  2. Seems to be an interesting place most sealed off from the rest of the community. Do they ever have days they are open to the public?

  4. Those trees are wonderful, Grace! I guess they don't ever have the building open to the public so you could have a look around inside. It is a lovely building.

  5. Very impressive. I can see that Gothic style very clearly and I like it.

  6. It’s a big facility. I wonder if it’s too big for them these days?

  7. It's a huge building and a rather good one. Like most religions, the organisation uses all the nice words.

  8. I've not heard of this group before. It's quite a beautiful building. Those trees certainly have grown since 1905!

  9. Multicultural always sounds so nice, Grace (the company I had a job interview at called themselves like that but were a huge disappointment).
Hmm, they welcome everyone, why not go in and ask if you may take pics? Can only help them getting more attention, no?

  10. You can live your whole life in a city and make still every day a new discovery. I especially like the trees around the building here. Very exotic for such a building.

  11. I've never heard of Redemptorists before, but they seem to know how to look after themselves. I'm often amazed at the strange names dreamed up by religious groups; there's an old chapel near here that is the domain of the Strict And Particular Baptists which conjures up delightful images in my mind.

  12. Monastries are usually very pretty buildings. This one is very nice situated with the trees around. The modern "Monks" have a couple of cars to drive around nowadays...

  13. Had to study on the word. It appears the Redemptorists originated in Italy in the 1700s. I had never heard of that order/congregation before. Their building is lovely!

  14. That's the best part of blogging. It makes us stop and photograph and wonder about the places in our own city.
I also enjoyed learning your expression " to have a squizzy at." :)
