Set me free..

He didn’t like to see animals in captivity. When he looked into their eyes, something in their eyes looked back at him.”
Rick Yancey, The Infinite Sea

Something in those eyes looked back at me! As much as I edited out the cage above, it was still there! Isn't nature wonderful. The Australian masked owl is an amazing looking creature with it's heart shaped mask and those dark penetrating eyes.. if I had had a key I would have set it free in a heartbeat. I seem to be a little obsessed with birds at the moment 😊 Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

  2. Beautiful but sad it is in a cage. On the other hand maybe it has something wrong with it and it has been saved from a worse fate. Take care Diane

  3. Very beautiful owl.
Do you shoot in RAW or JPG? Sometimes one is easier than the other to edit out obstructions. I shoot both so I have a file of each of each image. Sometimes GIMP works better with JPG than Darktable with RAW.

  5. What a face! And those claws! Maybe he has been injured and is in rehab or is unable to fend for himself in nature?

  6. Oh, Grace, I am reading "Wesley: The Story Of A Remarkable Owl" right now (biography, non-fiction). Such intelligent creatures, so cute and clever!

  8. That first shot is fabulous.
Birds are the very metaphor for freedom. I hate to see them caged.

  9. What a beautiful face. If it wasn't in a cage you might have had trouble getting a beautiful shot like that ... though I too prefer wild to caged birds.

  12. Award winning photo. That piercing gaze. Birds are sooooo smart. Sad to see him in captivity, but glad to get to see him. That fauna...

  15. Such a gorgeous creature. I gave up going to zoos years ago. The way things are going though, zoos will be the only places to see animals.
