It's probable that cats were introduced into Australia by English settlers in the late 1700's. Intentionally introduced to control pests around gold dig sites in the 1800's they have since become a major pest themselves, contributing to the disappearance of many ground-living birds and mammals.. 'management difficult due to the lack of effective and humane control techniques'. Modern day man can't escape adding to the problem by leaving pet cats behind when they move.. seriously how does one do that and sleep at night! I find the mural here by super talented Perth artist Sugar, found in a carpark just off Hay St. in Subiaco tres poignant, once more man has manipulated nature to suit his needs without thinking of the far reaching consequences! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

Quite a big mural, too!
ReplyDeleteThat's a big cat. Makes the car look small.
ReplyDeletePretty scary mural.
ReplyDeleteDidja know? Oct. 16 was Feral Cat Day! Really. See nationalferalcatday.org
Such a nice toothy smile!
ReplyDeleteThe owner of that car might want to check for scratches from those huge fangs!
ReplyDeletemeow!!!! EW :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one fierce kitty, Grace!
ReplyDeleteGreat mural. Man is doing their best to ruin earth I think. They kill for the sake of killing, they import animals and plants from one country to another with little thought as to the consequence, I could go on and on...... Have a good week Diane
ReplyDeleteI heard a news story about the feral cat problem down under. I am totally with you on the whole "leaving pets behind" issue. My friend David's golden retriever was rescued after being left behind in an empty house during the big housing crisis of 2008. I could never do that. I'd live in my car before I'd abandon a pet.
ReplyDeleteWe love our little kitties and can't imagine leaving them ever. We don't even like being gone over night! But feral cats can be a nuisance. There's a program here which tries to make people more responsible for their pets, esp. to have them neutered. Our cats don't go outside other on our lanai, but they sure go after the lizards with a passion. Can't get to 'em though! :)
ReplyDeleteHow DOES one live with an act like that?! Great being with you today at this fine post, G
ReplyDeleteWow, that is really incredibly roaring!
ReplyDeleteYikes!

I can't believe people leaving cats behind when moving, I don't think that happens here on such a scale. Have never heard it. It is a rather nasty image of a cat painting.
ReplyDeleteWow - that's quite an amazing mural.
ReplyDeleteLooks like he wants to take a bite out of that car. :)
ReplyDeleteThat´s a point, Grace - and a beautiful mural, too.
ReplyDeleteKitty looks angry!
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to say, "nice kitty, kitty" as I step way back. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
