'A farm that gave a suburb it's name'..

You will have to click the links to see how the title came about :) After the grey and miserable spring weather we've had for the last week, yesterday we were treated to a beauty of a day, blue skies and 21C..parfait! Above the first glimpse of Gallop House from Sandpiper Lane in Dalkeith. Gallop House built in the 1870's by James Gallop was later bought by the state government, neglected for several decades before being rescued and restored in 1963/4. You can read about the history and rescue of Gallop House here..

Walking down to Gallop House the view of the Swan River is as wide and wonderful as ever, although the development around it could not possibly be more different.. Dalkeith being one of Perth's most prestigious suburbs..

I actually sat on the verandah below to take the next two shots of the view not realizing that there was a resident inside.. no I don't mean the ghostly spirit of Mr. Gallop :) a real live live-in resident.. what an inspirational venue for an artist to create! If I had realized I would definitely have knocked to say hello. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...

  1. Prestigious is not a term addressed to the original Dalkeith!
    Love the river.

  5. Okay, what price do they want for it. I'm on the next flight to Perth! That's absolutely stunning...and what a view. Oh, about flying down there, well, I talked with my banker and she just laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. She's really kinda nasty! 😫

  6. What a truly lovely place with a great view! When I visited Perth I stayed with a cousin in Attadale, in a beautiful house not far from the Swan river, it was lovely! Anywhere near Dalkeith?

  7. House would look perfectly in place on our Gulf coast.

  8. Fine looking house in a great setting. The naming of a suburb after the house makes sense. Usually suburbs are named after what they removed when build, like Willow Brook, Whispering Pines, Fox Run, or Prairie View.
