This is one of the pylons under the Stirling Bridge, which is just east of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge that I posted last Sunday and although it's a fairly 'industrial' looking bridge I did find some interesting aspects to it...Like this face that has 'those' eyes that follow you from whichever angle you look at it, then there is this shadow image of Bon Scott from the rock band ACDC.....
It was also the site for one of the many demonstrations against the export of live animals, a human chain that spanned the length of the bridge (demo) , interesting short video, the Stirling Bridge was picked for the demo because of the many animal transporters that pass over it on their way to the docks at Fremantle. As a result of protests all over Australia, the Government put a six month ban on the export of live animals, the results of which will affect trade and farmers for quite some time into the foreseeable future, it will be interesting to see what the solution will be.....
Oh yes.. and then there was this chap swimming in the Swan River between the two bridges, talking to him on my way past he told me he swims there every day summer through to winter, good on him, he's made of tougher stuff than I .....!! Another scorcher in Perth today 36C, hope it's a bit more temperate where you are.....!!
Great photos. I was willing to swim in these waters.

Wonderful photos and I enjoyed your comments also! Aren't we lucky here in Australia that we have relatively little pollution and that we can enjoy natural environments even int he midst of quite populous cities?
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday!
PS: 19˚C max here in Melbourne today, looks a bit gray out there...
Love your photos! Beautiful bridge! Hope your weekend is going well!

Wouldnt it be fun to live in one of those apartments and go boating in one of those boats. Fiona
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to call "street art" that is painted on a bridge abutment that is visible from a boat. There is no street there for the street art.
ReplyDeleteThe face in the first picture is a little unnerving to me. I like the second face much better! The bridge is impressive, but the guy swimming even more so. It's a little cold here in north Florida right now. The only ones swimming might be tourists from up north.
ReplyDeleteLike the faces and love the swimmer! It is +6˚C here at 8 pm so we are all very pleased at how warm it is for December! No swimming though.
ReplyDeleteNo scorcher happening in my peninsula world! We are still crawling our of winter! Grey and windy today! Had the heater on this morning for a bit!
ReplyDeleteA fascinating bridge! Love the face and the all-seeing eyes!
Last time I looked there were masses of Jelly Fish in that water!!! Give me Yanchep Lagoon any time.
ReplyDeleteso your saying that your government listens to the people? extraordinary!

ReplyDeletegreat bridge, the first face seems curiously inquire about who crosses the river !!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat Bon Scott is awesome!
ReplyDeleteInteresting under bridge pictures. It's definitely not warm enough to swim here in Toronto! Not outdoors at least. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post Grace!
ReplyDeleteThese are great. I wonder if someone swam out to put these up.
ReplyDeleteYou found quite a few things interesting about this bridge! Love those faces.
ReplyDeleteFun to put a human touch on some otherwise faceless bridgey stuff. Love it, Grace!
ReplyDeleteACDC, must be the best export of Australia.
ReplyDeleteThat swimmer is like my mother was; nothing could keep her out of water. I'm a fish, too, but a tropical fish... I like the water cool to warm, don't do cold. Interesting bridge and stories, too.
ReplyDeleteWe have such people here, swimming all the year long, whatever the weather may be.Most of them are old!are there no sharks around there?..
ReplyDeleteVery interesting artworks on these bridges.
ReplyDeleteThat first picture is Karl Pilkington! He's a friend of Ricky Gervais and has become something of a cult favorite among fans of their radio shows and podcasts. Fans post pictures of his face or spray paint quotes from the show on walls all over the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Pilkington
ReplyDeleteFunny those faces under the bridge.
ReplyDelete27ºF this AM @ 6AM. Brrrrrrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteFun bridge details, Grace! It's much cooler over/up here in Eagan - I shoveled fresh snow off our sidewalk and driveway last night for an hour!
ReplyDeleteI like the bridge... and the details!
ReplyDeleteLove that Karl guy, he sure likes travelling!
ReplyDeleteVery good shots! Arianna
