Is it a bird, is it a plane.....??
I don't find it easy to make the call on whether to change a picture from colour to monochrome, some images just cry out for the look. I thought about it for the first picture, but the few splashes of blue between the clouds was just too intense to wipe out. Also, after trying to get the little speck of black off my computer screen I realized it was probably a very big bird or perhaps a small plane, can't get in close enough to see for sure!! In the second picture there was no blue to sacrifice, so it was an easier choice to zap!! Both were taken on the same day. Happy Sky Watch Friday .....

I'll take the color on this one.
ReplyDeleteLike Birdman, I usually prefer color, although the B+W here is pretty good. I am not the person who can suggest when to convert a picture; I rarely do it.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually do it either Jack, sometimes it works other times not so successfully.
ReplyDeleteI think the top one would work in mono as well, depending on how your processed, esp if you darkened the sky against the white clouds. I'm starting to try more conversions, its fun working out what treatment suits a particular shot. I spend ages fiddling with the channel mixers to get something that I like.
ReplyDeleteQuite terrific skies.
ReplyDeleteSydney - City and Suburbs
When are you in Sydney? Sculpture by the Sea is on 27 October to 13 November. Always worth a look if the weather holds and best seen on a week day.
ReplyDeletelet's play in the cloud fields!

love the monochrome!!
ReplyDeleteLike both Grace. Have a relaxing weekend.
ReplyDeletei think both look equally fantastic! ^0^
ReplyDeletei definitely love the blues as the clouds were forming, it looks really nice esp, how you carefully choose the angles. ^0^
I'll take the B+W version myself. I usually prefer the monochrome; sometimes, like above, it is a hard call to make.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I would never willingly drop the colors from an image of mine, I am always surprised when other people do it!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the colour!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. I find it really hard to turn a colourful photo into b&w. I try it sometimes but I seldom manage to get rid of colours... :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat skies, great photos, both. The B&W is a clear winner for me, Grace!
ReplyDeleteI love B&W pictures... particulary use it for portraits,
ReplyDeleteSometimes color disturb the eye from subject...
Great skys pictures... Both !

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Don't know what happened to the comment I left on this one ... I actually think the colour works better on this shot - maybe not quite enough contrast in the sky for B&W?? But it's a close call - I like them both!!
ReplyDeleteHow's that for a bet each way??!!
