In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields. John McCrae..
Fine photo, Grace. Our Veteran's Day is tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI'm remembering.... and honouring the lost.
ReplyDeleteThere's another verse to John McCrae's poem:
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
I think every Canadian learns that poem in school. Or at least we used to learn it. An excellent pic, Grace.

Dearest Grace,
ReplyDeleteIt is a very noble thing for standing still by all those that gave their all for their country. Your Remembrance Day and our Veterans Day in the U.S.A. are both on the 11/11.
Hugs,
Mariette
