Boola Bardip.. Many Stories.

As you can see the skies were blue and the sun a bit too bright for the official opening of the new WA Museum Boola Bardip, there is a fabulous overview pic on this link, last Saturday the 21st November. Having had a sneak preview inside the week before I was pretty happy I didn't have to stand in the long queues waiting here to explore the new museum. Its name, Boola Bardip, means 'many stories' in Whadjuk, the Noongar language..

Just as it sometimes is with historical facts the lines between past and present architecture can also be hard to align, the spectacular blend of old and new works so well here because although it may look like it, the wonderful old original buildings refuse to be dominated. Will take more photos when we are there next to highlight this point..

With the upheaval of renovations going on at the moment I haven't had time to go through the photos I took on that earlier visit, hopefully soon. Meanwhile a sneak teaser of what's to come :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. The reason no one is wearing masks is because we haven't had any community covid here in WA for the past several months.. P.p.s. still trying to catch up :)

  2. Dearest Grace,
Indeed, seeing a crowd without a mask on is refreshing!
You got so lucky in your area, guess more common sense leadership.
Hoping your renovation comes along well by now.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  3. You should try the panorama technique when you photograph big buildings Grace.

  4. How wonderful you have a new museum. Look forward to seeing more of it. The architecture does not seem jarring between old and new. So good your area has avoided Covid pandemic. Our state is now the worst outbreak in the world.

  5. Lucky you with a new museum. The first thing I noticed was people aren't wearing masks. How great that your area has been covid free. We are still restricted to level 5, go to level 3 next week. Have a nice day, Grace.

  6. The architecture looks great, Grace! I envy the no mask life. We are in lockdown here until Dec 21 at least. I guess your isolation really helped you to avoid the virus.

  7. We are the same with masks, no community covid cases here either.

  8. Had to look that language up. Interesting. I wish our Covid was under control. Starting to feel like a prisoner here.

  9. I wonder if your Premier will open your state to Victoria after we haven't had a new case for 28 days and seemingly have eliminated the virus? Maybe some people will just write WA off their future travel lists.

  10. We went on Sunday to the ballot preview. It's quite beautiful and love the way they've integrated the old buildings with the new architecture.

  12. It seems very odd to see crowds and no masks, we have just slightly lifted a little of our lockdown rules but not much. For me the main thing is I can walk up to 20 kms (but that will not happen) and I have 3 hours now instead of the one hour before. We still have to carry certificates though.
Have a good weekend, keep well, Diane

  15. Wow, this looks really very great, Grace! Matches - as usually - perfectly.
    Looking forward to see more!

Hehe, yes, I saw a pic of Kingsway Shopping Centre, a close-up of the barber there and I thought, "HEY!!! Where is your mask?!! Oh. Calm down. They don´t need any...".
Off to the market soon. When crossing the ring: Mask on. I hate it, glasses fog up and you can hardly breathe. And so early on the city is empty - but they do patrol. And it´s little use as people do not keep the distance...

  16. That last shot is awesome - I love it. That's pretty awesome that WA has beat the virus. Here in Saudi, our numbers are way down but we are still not willing to take any chances.
