Acrophobic nightmare.....!
One of the highlights of my week was meeting fellow blogger Reena from missing moments, we spent a happy two hours chatting over coffee in Kings Park overlooking the city. Her photos from her trip around Australia are fabulous, can't wait to see her Perth pics. The theme for CDP'ers today is 'height', a tricky one for acrophobics like myself. I don't often climb my (?) lighthouse at Hillary's Boat Harbour but yesterday after taking numerous shots from below and finally settling on the above angle which I think accentuates the height rising into the drama of the evening sky, I steeled the nerves and began the ascent..ok I know it's not Mt. Everest but still..seeing the rocks and water through the holes in the deck does very funny things to the tummy :) I confess I only stayed up there for a few minutes.. I chose the shot below for it's shapes & shadows and inverted the colour to highlight the descending stairs! Have a good Friday, take care....

These are fantastic captures, Grace!! Made me dizzy just looking at that second one!! I would have done the same thing you did, but with a very "uneasy" tummy!! Hope you have a great weekend!! And thank you, as always, for your visits/comments on my blog!! They are appreciated!!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed by your dedication to the theme day, Grace!!
ReplyDeleteCes deux photos sont remarquables
ReplyDeleteWhat a brave girl you are
ReplyDeleteOh, Grace, you have done a wonderful job here! Both shots are brilliant and, yes, looking up works really well for this theme day. Super clouds too. Have a terrific weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to meet other bloggers, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYour photos are smashing. Book stuff...
I especially love the stairway shot! You are much braver than I am. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my, you are a brave woman. Those stairs would have the same effect on my tummy. If they were solid on all sides I might be able to handle it but, the fact that your can see between them would make me very nervous. Heck, I have trouble getting on glass sided escalators.
ReplyDeleteBravo! :-)
ReplyDeleteNailed it ! Good work.
ReplyDeleteGreat view up.
ReplyDeleteVertigo! Great shots...happy Halloween, Arianna
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with heights, but those stairs are scary!
ReplyDeleteYou are one brave girl Grace - well done - beautiful pics! I could not have climbed up there; could not!!! Joy x
ReplyDeleteI didn't have my glasses on and thought you were afraid of spiders arachnophobia and kept wondering if the building had spider webs on it. Oh well maybe I need some extra sleep.
ReplyDeleteA splendid choice for the theme, Grace!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad - a lot of us are acrophobic. Great photos nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteThat is a neat lighthouse. I really like lighthouses. Every opportunity I get I visit one. I like climbing them and spending time outside the light. Taking photos straight down from the top through the middle and then from the bottom up make some interesting and dizzying photos.
ReplyDeleteFunny climbing never made me dizzy. Looking down from the top of a tower or pole or anything never bothered me. Elevator (lift) shafts are a different story. Go figure.
These are great! I completely forgot about theme day.
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots!
ReplyDeleteGrace, you nailed the theme with these two fine shots! Even though they are black and white! (I don't like heights, either, and took my photo from ground level.)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Perfect for the theme.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine me? No-way Jose! Fab photos as always, Gracie.
ReplyDeleteDon't know why it won't display by Wordpress Avatar... doesn't like other blogs, hey? So I;m going annonymous :o))
ReplyDeleteNot too fond of heights either, I haven't been able to climb the DNA tower at Kings Park, although I think the view would be fabulous. Great pics.
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic sky, love the stairway, so cool!
ReplyDeleteWow ! Drama indeed ! Well done. Love the black and white.
ReplyDeleteYou daredevil, I don't like to go úp either
ReplyDeleteAwesome sky watching! love the B/W...
ReplyDeleteWell done on rising to the challenge Grace. Isn't it lovely meeting up with fellow bloggers when you can? Hope we get to meet one day ;-)
ReplyDeleteHere is the direct link for my Wordpress blog. http://francesmacaulayforde.wordpress.com/
ReplyDeleteI don't even like to look at place like this! Yikes. A step-stool is high enough for me!
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures dear Gracie, I love b&w choice, the first one is so dramatic! The staircase is also beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLéia
brilliant ... love these, they makes me quake with fear of falling ... vertigo!!
ReplyDeleteI would never have climbed there! I hate those stairs with holes!!
ReplyDeleteThis being said, I love your pics. The first one shows very well how I feel , giving me a feeling of vertigo!:o)
I suffered a stab of acrophobia yesterday. The incident will appear in my blog in time. The last photo is great and much better in black and white than it would have been in colour.
ReplyDeleteBoth excellent pictures. The top one is full of drama, perhaps as much as you felt looking down. Don't suppose you're rushing off to someplace like the CN Tower in Toronto, the Calgary Tower or the Harris Building in Chicago, where you can walk out on a glass floor 3 or 400 meters up and look straight down to the sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteEwww, Grace, I´m so with you!!! Great shots, I wouldn´t have made it, I guess!
ReplyDeleteFunny thing: When I read your post I remembered the woman at our bakery asked us to bring a little lighthouse, she collects them.
I noted the address (for a postcard to the team) and then... then I had to add "lighthouse" cause...I forgot the German word! Leuchtturm, NOW I got it! Weird how the brain works at times, huh?
Your second pic reminds me of Friedrichskoog, there is a station where they save lost seal-babies and there is a tower with steps like that, too. Up was no problem. Down... step.by.step, Ingo lead me. Stupid, non?! Leuchtturm, dear brain ;-) (Note to self)
Interesting contribution to the theme day. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteGrace s'est superbe et tu es montée là-haut ? Bravo :(
ReplyDeletePasse un bon week-end :)
There is no way I would have braved those stairs featured in the second photo. I admire your guts. Closed in steps are OK, "sorta", but open ones with views straight down freeze me into fear and nausea. Great photos though.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Grace! I understand about heights. I've learned to ignore my fear, but it's still there.
ReplyDeleteOh, the sacrifices we make to get our photos! You did very, very well.
