There's nothing as odd as.....!

Was there ever anything as odd as the Banksia pod? (worth enlarging to see it's hairy weirdness close up) Taken while out walking through Hepburn Heights bushland yesterday to see if any of the wildflowers are out.  Even though it's still the middle of winter in Australia it's been so mild here in Perth with sunny warm days of 20C I wondered if the wildflowers might have been fooled into thinking it was spring :) There was the odd splash of bright yellow, but as yet it's mostly the Banksia in various stages of growth....

If you're very lucky you may catch a glimpse (below) of the 'exotica red' behind the bushes, a tres rare species of the lesser known 'glamographer' :) and of course there's no show without the 'gang' turning up! Hope that you're having a wonderfully relaxing weekend, take care, and stay safe..p.s. catch up today.....

  1. Beautiful colors and they do look spring-like!! But, of course, my favorites today are the Roos ! So amazing for me to see them out of the usual cages you see them in here in the states! Hope you're enjoying a great weekend, Grace!!

  11. May Gibbs was not part of my childhood reading, so they are just interesting plants to me. So nice of the mob to pose for you.

  12. Love those big guys keeping a wary eye on you! And yes! The banksia pod has the weirdest detail I have ever seen on a plant! No wonder May Gibbs found inspiration in it!

  13. AAAAAAAAAAGH! So that's what they are! I've lost count of the times someone has passed a comment about the weird things in a tree, and you're the first to actually give me an answer. I feel so stupid, and am looking forward to my first chance to appear smug.

  18. That is one very strange looking pod. I don't think I've ever heard of that plant before. The kangaroos are always fun to see. That photo of the gang is great. Of course, that red headed photographer is always a welcome guest.

  19. Is it me or do those kangaroos look slightly thuggy and up to no good :) Banksia are about the strangest tree I've ever seen. Nice to see the greater spotted red A - rarely sighted!
