Sails on the horizon.....

It wasn't quite so sunny yesterday and there was a bit of rain out to sea, it didn't stop Perthites from running, walking or cycling along the coast road..didn't stop the keen sailors either. Walking I do, I've even been known to run on the odd occasion :) but sailing..umm! No. There's too much going on beneath those beautiful swirling blue waters to feel comfortable n'est pas! The tanker out there on the horizon will be waiting in Gage Roads until it's cleared to enter Fremantle Harbour. I took these shots with Aimee's 40-150mm lens, it's a good range as the 12-50mm can sometimes be a bit short and the 75-300mm too restricting close up..Well that's the weekend over for moi, if it's still Sunday for you, enjoy..if not happy Monday take care.....

  2. Your winter looks very much like some of our summer days, lol! I have to say that for the past week, we've had real summer weather though! That ominous sky is so beautiful.

  3. What a wonderful place to bike or take a stroll...looks a bit cooler than our temperatures here in Florida right now! :) Do you have Great White Sharks lurking in those waters?

  4. Beautiful landscape and beautiful walk.
    Are there many sharks?
    Hugs and kisses.

  5. Living where I do, I find grey skies quite interesting. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! In the last shot it was interesting to see (just faintly) the huge cranes in what I assume is Freemantle.

  8. Looks like an interesting lens. Just like you I prefer to stay on dry land.

  9. So refreshing, as always, to see a little bit of what's happening round the other side. Thanks. Up to 30 degrees C in Old Perth in Scotland recently, and the government are issuing "Heatwave Alerts", which I am sure will make Aussies laugh.

  11. Is everything about Australia beautiful? It all looks so wonderful!

These shots made me think of a photo I took in the Pacific at Newport Beach years ago....

  13. I'm not much of a sailor...sea sickness. But I like to watch from shore.

  14. I am with you, Grace. No sailing for me. Solid ground is what I want. A 40-150mm lens? That would be good. My everyday lens is 18-135mm, a bit more on either side but similar. Love it!

  15. Gage Roads is an interesting name. Our similar is called something really imaginative, like South Channel.

  16. Those sail boats look like someone placed them very precisely on the water. Perfectly spaced. Loving!

  20. Oh come now, they are not sailing over the Marianas Trench. Bring a life jacket and enjoy the wind in your hair.

  21. Hi Grace. There is nothing like a stroll along the sea shore to put a bounce in your step. Love the first photo with those yachts in the distance and that hint of swirling rain.

  24. I have the same feeling, no boats for me, although I live in a country with lots of water. Maybe born in the wrong country?

  25. I like BIG boats, as you know. Sail away on an adventurous week.

  26. I doesn't look much like winter there :). Everyone is staying to their side of the path...well-behaved you lovely Perth people. Super shots out to sea...one day I will treat myself to a telephoto lens. First have to use the bog standard one I have...ha ha! (Oh...forgot about the dentist bill. Wonder what that will be!).

  29. Beautiful scenery and photos! Love the sailboats all in a line.
I know exactly what you mean about the lenses. I've gotten very lazy in my old age. My 18-70 and 70-300 lenses usually stay in the bag (or at home) and my 18-270 seems to have become a permanent fixture on my camera. It's not the best at any distance, but it is certainly good enough for me.

  30. Sounds like what happens in my world! Even grim weather can't stop the peninsula folk from walking the beach or the coastal walk! Actually, it can be an exciting experience when a storm is looming! Just hard to take photos if there's an accompanying strong wind! I've had to ditch many of what should be great shots! But the wind-blown shakes ruin them!
