Birthday celebrations..

February in Perth is a huge month for festivals. I feel I've neglected the Chinese New Year celebrations that have been happening every day beginning the 5th Feb. Will make up for it on Sunday at the Lunar New Year Lantern Festival in Northbridge. Today a colourful tribute to acknowledge the birthday of the Jade Emperor. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Today may be a day in bed for me.. damn flu ๐Ÿ˜ช

'With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair'..

It makes me truly happy whenever I come across a mural by my favourite French artiste Tankateo. Her work makes the world a happier place, the quirky details in every mural a visual delight. Spotted this mural when we were at Coventry Village last week. You last saw her work here on the blog with the portrait that now hangs on my wall.. has everyone guessing if it's a portrait of Aimee ๐Ÿ˜‰ Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Missed opportunities..

On Saturday evening we went to La Soiree one of the hottest shows in the Fringe World Festival, held in the Ice Cream Factory on Roe Street in Northbridge. Have a look here to get a 30 second idea of the acts, most of which were performed on the handkerchief sized stage above. There was a 'no cameras' policy.. the show hadn't started in the shot above and was over in the pics below so had a couple of quick clicks :) Although there were many, many stunning photo ops, it was more fun to sit and enjoy the show without thinking about those shots. All that energy, all those people, the hot weather.. it was ice-cream all round when the lights went out ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you had/are still having a good weekend, take care and stay safe..

'The Trees Speak'..

We had the most inspiring experience on Friday evening. One of the many events during Perth Festival 2019, Boorna Waanginy, I would love it if you clicked the link to watch the one minute video to see a glimpse of the wonder that we experienced while walking under the tall lemon scented eucalyptus trees that line Fraser Avenue, I truly wish you could have been there. The three minute deeper meaning of the event by the director of this incredible experience is here, very much worth the three minutes. Kings Park has forever been a special place for the Nyoongar people, making this event even more special. As you can imagine taking photos was incredibly difficult thank goodness for Aimee's skill and for letting me use her photos from the night here. Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Off to Fringe tonight, big catch up tomorrow ๐Ÿ’›

Unforeseen surprises..

Wednesday, late afternoon.. what was that I heard, thunder! No way! Followed by a spattering of rain. Thinking the clouds might make for a good sunset shot we dashed down to the lighthouse at Hillarys Boat Harbour just in time to see the sun disappear under the horizon! Still that colourful after-glow behind the clouds though. I broke the 'not having main feature centre of picture' rule, but am declaring the photographer to the left as the main subject so that sorts that out  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Looking back before getting into the car I took my last shot.. oh la that thunderous sky! Unfortunately more rain fell out to sea than it did on land, you can see the rain to the right below falling almost horizontally. Got to love these unexpected surprises ๐Ÿ’› Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

Heads or tails..

Whereas the koala, yesterday's post, is found all over Australia the Quokka, protected by law, is native to WA. The main population of quokkas is on Rottnest Island just off the coast of WA. So friendly are these sweet wee critters that it has become a huge attraction when visiting the island to take a selfie with a quokka, check out the #quokkaselfie here. Don't be alarmed, there would be serious consequences for anyone treating the quokkas badly and if you click the hashtag link, they look like they are having fun also :) The two here however were lazing languorously in the hot sun, not even the slightest hope of a selfie! Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

What do you mean I'm not a bear!

Do they look as if they care :) Koalas are anti-social critters, sleeping for most of the day, eating when awake. Sleeping, eating, sounds appealing no wonder they are so cuddly chubbly ๐Ÿ’™ A bit like exhausted children they seem to be able to sleep in any position, the guy above and his mates below were out for the count, totally unaware of the many cameras clicking at Caversham Wildlife Park. The park is a huge hit with tourists who come to see uniquely Australian wildlife and despite the hot weather there were long queues waiting to have their pic taken with the koalas, exhausting stuff for the sleepy marsupials.. not as cuddly as they look by all accounts! More marsupials tomorrow. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. much less scary than yesterday :)
