Creative cruising..

Initially I had the same appreciative reaction that most would have seeing this beauty parked in Leederville, who wouldn't admire the classic lines of the gleaming red and white 1957 Ford Ranchero.. that was a guess btw, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :) but there's so much more to it than just the cool factor.. it is super cool! Variety Creative Car Cruise, three minute video here showing the fun they have, is just one of the events through the year raising money for Variety, the Children's Charity. the next ride for these lovelies is in March next year, that date is going on my calendar for sure! Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

  2. ...gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! I've never seen a Ranchero with a continental kit before. On classy set of wheels. The video choked me up.

  4. Grace, that is indeed a beautiful car. Love the red and white colors. But your identification is a bit off. It is a 1959 Ford Fairlane Skyliner, known at a "flip top" Ford because the hard top folds into the trunk (boot, if you follow British terminology). Ranchero was a car based pickup truck.

  5. You don't see them like that anymore.

  6. I knew that TFG would be able to give the ID. I thought it was a Fairlane but he has so much knowledge! It is wonderful, Grace!

  7. Very, very cooooool, but it'd be tricky to find a parking space or even navigate through the streets of Cambridge in such a car.

  8. I do believe it's even bigger than the '73 Mach 1 Mustang in my carport.

  11. It looks a bit long for a Skyliner, but the markings match. My friend rebuilt a few of them about 20 years ago. they are quite unique like TakenForGranted stated, the roof automatically will lift up and back and into the trunk. there was even a set of stackable luggage that was custom made for the Skyliner that fit into the trunk allowing the roof to store in the trunk over the luggage. Still a cool car, and much rarer than the Ranchero. Next time I'll tell you about the unique cooling from under the roof cowls. The model in the photo does not have that.

  15. Oh, Grace! And Elmo was there, too! :-)
And now I do wonder.. 2013, all those vintage cars that turned up one Sunday on Kingsway SC... maybe that was this an event like this as well?
    Oh, such beauties!
My ex-boyfriend had a 1970-somethings´s Holden in orange - it was such a fun driving that one!! Huge steering wheel and all!
"Sad" when that´s what you remember as good times with your ex, huh ;-)

  16. Drool. There are quite a lot of these wonderful classics being imported from a the USA these days. I doubt many of them cruised our roads when they were new. Australia was in love with the FJ Holden in those days.

  20. It sure is a beauty! My hubby says it's a 1959 Ford Fairlane Skyliner Retractable Hardtop try saying that three times in a row! He's our car man.

  21. Wow, talk about nostalgia. Lois and I bought a new (actually a demo) 1957 Ford Fairlane, 4-door hardtop, painted cream and salmon. It was beautiful but unfortunately a lemon. Had a ton of problems so we got rid of it. When we first met (August 1954 - she was in high school), I had a 1937 Chevy. When we married in 1957, we had a 1950 Plymouth couple. I wonder how many cars we've owned?

  22. Looks like a really fun event and an excellent charitable cause! Old car events are a big draw here in the States too!!!
