St Stephen's Anglican Church, Toodyay..

Mon ami français Marie was delighted! An avid explorer, as soon as she spotted the open door to St Stephen's Anglican Church we were in like Flynn :) I too love exploring churches, the simplicity of country churches in particular is more appealing to me. St Stephen's was consecrated and opened for services in 1862  Have a look at St Stephen's circa 1890's, wonderful black & white image. Described as 'restrained Gothic' this delightful red brick church was one of the first buildings constructed in Toodyay and if you looked at the 1890's image earlier, all that is changed is the roof, the original shingle roof replaced by corrugated iron. Très jolie don't you think. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

  3. A beauty of a church, inside and outside. I love it when you can just walk in and see what it looks like.

  5. It has held up so well. It's hard to imagine that it's over 150 years old. And how sweet that the old photo has a bride and groom in it. So many generations of events.

  6. How I love these photos. Yes, I agree that rural, country, or village churches appeal to me more than grand buildings. A feeling of peace and serenity seems to go along with them. I love the brick work and the clean, simple lines. The stained lassis also simple and uncluttered. Less is more!

  7. Small is often better, Grace - and open doors, who can resist!

  8. A very similar design to many churches of that era in England - though we have no need for fans in the roof!

  9. I too love country church’s but don’t often go inside except for when I am actually attending worship. Churches don’t seem to be open very much these days.

  10. It looks very nice inside. I only visit churches when I am on holliday in other countries :)
