The Deanery..

Every time I'm on the Terrace I think about taking a shot of St. George's Cathedral Deanery but being the terrace it's not easy to get the shot without traffic blocking the view! The Deanery, the oldest residential building in the CBD, was built in 1859 when the terrace was but a dirt road, hard to imagine that now. Built as the residence for the first Dean of Perth, it is still used by the current Dean and cathedral staff. If you click on the link above you will see that the Deanery is mostly unaltered over the years, apart from the gardens which I believe will be restored to their former glory, cannot wait to see them. Surrounded by glass skyscrapers the Deanery is still one of the most charming buildings on the terrace. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...

  1. A deanery is a rather new word to me! A very pleasant looking building.

  2. Oh goodness, it looks so small among the newer, taller buildings and yet it's very impressive to me. It has a charming homey feeling to me. Thanks for sharing it with us all.

  3. It's strange to see that tiny house among the tall modern buildings in the city, but I'm glad it's been kept for posterity!

  4. It looks so small and modest surrounded by all those glass towers.
To answer your question, yes we do have water restrictions from time to time depending on the water table levels. People can be fined rather heavily for over use of water to lawns and such.

  5. An old building surrounded by new. I liked the slideshow that showed the deanery through the years. The little building standing with the big ones. Nice post Grace!

  11. I certainly remember the cathedral but not the deanery. It's a good example of architecture of the period and it is so good that it has survived.

  14. The Deanery has held up well. It does not appear that old. I'll have to google Deanery give I have not heard the word before.

  16. I must admit, Grace, I walked past there not paying much attention! Now that I know I will do have a closer look!

  17. The cathedral and Deanery look so lovely together... like staunch old friends in the face of progress. But I must admit, the Deanery's white is framed rather nicely by the blue in the tall glass building.
