Summer storms, the good and the bad...

So now you know why you didn't hear from me last night :) For the last few days, and it continues, Perth has been experiencing summer storms.. high winds, thunder, lightning and lots of rain.. the thunder I enjoy, the rain j'adore but the lightning.. just taking this shot was a wee bit scary:) I downloaded, scheduled and turned the computer off just in case! The rain is most welcome but it creates havoc after such a long dry period.. slippery roads, power lines down etc. Still, as I sit here typing with that amazing perfume of wet garden outside my window, I'm not complaining. Catch up today, happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

  2. I once lived in a house where none of the outlets were grounded. Everytime there was a lightning storm, something got fried. That's when I replaced all the old outlets with GFCI outlets. Even then one couldn't be too careful.

  3. That is so spooky, Grace! I'm always leery of lightning.

  7. I don't think I have ever seen lightning with so many "fingers." I think the shot is amazing. Now I want to go hide under my bed.

  13. very impressive sideways lightning, great photo. While I like the energy in the air when a storm is raging, I am a bit scared of where the lightning might strike.

  14. I'm not sure about Perth but we hear often that Florida is the lightning capitol of the world! Sometimes, we get 20,000 strikes a minute or something like that...I hate it! You're smart to turn off the electronics...probably should unplug them, too. That's quite a photo. Scary night!

  15. That's a great lighting photo Grace. Imagine all the energy it contains -- if we could only harness it.
Lightning is a daily happening here in the lightning capital of the USA (if not the world). All the thunderstoms make it a real challenge to have an amateur radio station at the house. During the summers we get tens of thousands of strikes a day.

  17. Great lightening photo. These are not easy to get, I know, I've tried without great success. I love summer thunder storms, just so the lightening doesn't hit near me.

  18. Oh gosh, you've described our summer storm dilemma to a tee. We get the same slippery road problem. This shot is simply amazing. So glad you captured it for us.

  19. Fantastic capture Grace, last night's lightning was amazing. I did get one shot which actually showed a bolt and about six which lit the sky, that's out of about 700 shots ha ha. Nothing as spectacular as your shot. I need some more practice, which by the look of it might happen again tonight.

  24. That's quite a zippy lightning fork happening there. Amazing combination of ragged lightning shape and power line silhouettes.
