"All children, except one, grow up."

"... children know such a lot now,
they soon don't believe in fairies
and every time a child says 'I don't believe in fairies'
there is a fairy somewhere that falls down dead,"  J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan..

After talking with a friend who had read an article in the newspaper, yes he is one of the remaining few who still reads the paper every morning.. I like to if I have time, do you? The story was about a couple of features in Queens Gardens that he thought might interest me and you also. The first is now my current favourite sculpture in the city. A replica of the Peter Pan sculpture in Kensington Gardens in London produced by George Frampton the sculptor himself and autographed by J.M. Barrie.. presented to the children of WA in 1927 by the Rotary Club, très belle pressie! The details are exquisite as is the park itself.. will show you a bit more tomorrow and leave the 'other' feature for the weekend.. bit of a tease :)

I'll sign off with these words of wisdom from PP..

'the moment you doubt whether you can fly,
you cease for ever to be able to do it'

Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe.....p.s. a big merci beaucoup to my paper reading friend :)

  1. Thought I recognised the statue. Everyone is a child at heart so in a way we never grow up, just grow old

  5. What a surprise for me to open your post and see this sculpture - exactly the same as one we have here that was installed in 1929. Ours is a lot more oxidized than yours so it is interesting to see the difference. Our 2 cities are so alike, Grace!
    Here was mine http://occasionaltoronto.blogspot.ca/2014/06/a-child-forever.html

  10. I especially like your last photo, I think it's the full sight of it all, and the couple enjoying their moment together. Oh and yes, we still get the newspaper delivered to our house and I enjoy when I can to read it!

  12. It's quite a beautiful sculpture, and you convey that so well.

There's the flipside of the Peter Pan stories. You could say Hook's the hero, and here we have a responsible captain going about his business plundering and managing a ship, and that infernal brat of a flying kid keeps causing havoc and messing with his piracy.

  16. It is wonderful, isn't it? And, it is sad in some ways that we lose the imagination and big dreams of childhood. Thanks for taking the time to show several views of the excellent statue and its details.

I read the paper versions of the local newspaper and the Wall Street Journal every day, and I check the online version of newspapers in other cities where I have lived. I guess I am a news junkie.

  21. And my February-list grows and grows, Grace! I loved the movie, and the book and this statue will be fun to discover in all the details. To the fairies!
I indeed tried to read "paper-news", a special edition to Germany being reunited last weekend. It was so large, I really had to fight with it - so, no, I prefer it online. But at our pub I see both, people reading news on paper and on iPad and it´s not always the older ones with the paper!

  24. wow, i love that sculpture, and i also love that last photo! great quotes too...we get a little local paper for free in the mail put out by our county telling little tidbits of news, kid's sport pictures, school happenings etc...i do take about 10 minutes to read the stories in that each week...i prefer paper as to online reading though, but rarely buy a newspaper!
