Two hugely different styles of art. I love the above work of Perth contemporary artist Ariel Katzir who through her work 'examines the illusion of beauty, exploring the facets of beauty and challenges the view that the lines on one’s face do not fit traditional ideals of the construct. Instead, she maintains they are underappreciated'. We all under appreciate those lines right :) Below the whimsical work of young Perth artist ZOEK who is 'curious about the natural world, the world of make-believe and the myths & folklore that bind us, drawing and storytelling with pictures'. Realism and fantasy, a happy balance.. taken on the same day in Maylands a while back. Happy new week, take care and stay safe..

Dear weather, stop showing off, we know you are hot!

 

The heat index is somewhere between OMG and WTF! Seriously this isn't funny anymore, what a summer. The destination for the brave souls that do head out almost always revolves around water. I read a story in the news yesterday the headline stating that 'Perth city was deserted', I'd give my bottom dollar that shot was taken really early before anything was open, apart from that it was over 40 blooming degrees. Is anyone else sick to death of click-bait headlines. I'm pretty much over everything at the moment :) Hope you are happy and well, happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

Hat-trick of talent..

 

Was delighted to discover the new mural here on a drive through North Perth on Sunday. Inspired by the work of brilliant Indigenous photographer Michael Jalaru Torres  and freshly painted by gifted WA muralist and portrait artist Susan Respinger the mural is of Courtney Ugle, you can read her story HERE, a young West Australian Noongar woman who despite many challenges growing up is a successful AFL (Australian Football League) player and a positive inspiration to all. A hat-trick of excellent West Australian talent. Happy new week, take care and stay safe.. P.s. taken very early on Sunday morning is why it looks so quiet :)

Well I'll be dammed..

 

No I didn't make a spelling error in the title :) it is Mundaring Weir I'm referring too. I have shown the dam before but if you look towards the top of the hill in the shot above you will see the lookout where I am usually standing. Everything we do at the moment has to be done at the crack of dawn before the heat of the unrelenting sun sets in (around 8am). On such a walk last week I was amazed to see the dam at almost 60% full.I know we had a lot of rain last winter but this summer has been exceptionally hot right from the get go. 43C today and despite air conditioning and swimming pools that kind of weather for weeks on end is incredibly exhausting..

The red tailed black cockatoos were impossible to get a clear shot of but still enjoyed catching a glimpse of their remarkable colours high up in the trees. Looks like we are in for a bit of respite over the next three days, lower temps and even a 40% chance of showers, I'll believe that when I see it. The list of things to do IF the weather is actually cooler grows exponentially, we'll see :) Happy weekend, take care and stay safe.. P.s I'm doing my best, thanks for sticking with me 💚

The power of patience..

 

 The February theme for City Daily Photo bloggers around the world is 'power'. Having patience for many of the things in our daily life is most certainly a power that so many do not possess, myself included. On a walk recently P captured these shots of the delightful, tiny and extremely evasive Splendid Fairy Wren. The male here is sporting his stunning mating plumage, can you spot the female in the collage below, no wonder she looks cranky :)

Pills and potions..

 

I could do with a magic pill or potion right now, any suggestions :) Fun and appropriate mural found on the Community Pharmacy in Wanneroo. I feel that I should know who painted it, I recognise the style but my brain refuses to make the connection! Any ideas Sami? In the summertime..

...  when the weather is fine :) I didn't have to go far for this fantastical mural painted by one of my favourite Perth artists Peter Ryan whose work you have seen here many times. Adorning the walls of the facilities for the children's beach area at Hillarys Boat Harbour this colourful beauty is perfect in this spot that is so popular with young families and their toddlers.
