The 'green lungs of the city'..

 Described as 'the green lungs of the city' the trees here provide shade in the landscaped park incorporated into the design of 51 storey high skyscraper Central Park in the heart of the CBD.. but not for much longer! I took these shots a few days ago and the leaves on the plane trees are in full end of autumn mode about to drop a ton of leaves onto Hay Street. I love when that happens but then again I don't have to sweep them up :) I'm guesstimating that the next time I'm here in this spot there will be magnificent tall naked trees looking back at me.. click! WA Day at Elizabeth Quay encore..

I'm not sure if I've ever seen so many people on the bridge all at the same time before! The WA Day celebrations at Elizabeth Quay drew thousands of visitors over the long weekend and as much as I'm longing for rain I was really happy that the weather was perfect for the festivities. I took so many photos I hope the few that I picked here and yesterday convey the happy vibes at the quay. Happy Wednesday, take care and most of all stay safe...

WA Day at Elizabeth Quay..

WA Day yesterday saw Perthites and visitors flock to celebrate the festivities at Elizabeth Quay. I deliberately left the sunburst in the shot above because even though it is officially winter here in Perth when I took these shots at 2pm in the afternoon it was around 25C.. perfect! You might notice in the shots below that even though there were thousands here, the river police were kept on their toes, there were still opportunities for a quiet moment. You might have to embiggen to appreciate just how big the crowds were but I've saved some shots for tomorrow where embiggening will not be necessary :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

A little bit tired and a lot sad!

It's been one of those weeks! I'm happy and very relieved to say my sister is on the mend and should be home within the next few days. I'm beyond sad at the world events over the last few days, from climate change denial to terrorist atrocities, when will it all end! Things that make me smile are most welcome as did the sight of the laid-back, sleepy-eyed hairy skate boarder with his undulating :) pink background found in one of the many lanes off Beaufort Street. Kings Park. Lazy, hazy days of ... winter!

In Kings Park on Wednesday passing the time until I could visit my sister who is unfortunately having a spell in hospital I spent a calming half hour walking and taking a few shots of the views. Fraser Avenue above and below is one of my favourite views, the majestic lemon scented gums make a wonderfully impressive drive up into the park, and a few glimpses that caught my eye. I'm looking forward to catching up but as always family comes first.. bon weekend, take care and stay safe..

A paler shade of grey..

Yesterday the city was enveloped in a smoky haze as a result of a prescribed burn-off in Beelu National Park east of Perth in the Helena Valley. By the time I took these shots at 2pm in the afternoon the haze had cleared to a gentle grey but if you check the link here you will see what it was like first thing in the morning. As with all controlled winter burn-offs a warning went out to those with breathing related problems to keep windows shut and air-conditioners off. If you are concerned about the wildlife, a lot of planning by Parks and Wildlife goes into the organizing of a prescribed burn-off. CDP Theme 'nature'.. flora et fauna.

The theme for CDP'ers for June is 'nature'. Walking through a nature strip not far from home last week I startled a group of munching marsupials. Edging a little closer the kangaroo centre stage started scratching as he watched me.. I heard somewhere that this could be a sign I was getting too close, so I left :) couldn't help thinking that kangaroos, surrounded by grass trees, endemic to Australia, might pass for a characteristically Aussie bush scene!

I miss these small but noisy rainbow lorikeets above in my garden so am always happy to see a flock feasting on the fruits of the Sheoak trees in the bush and the gymnastics they perform to reach this treat. Below looking out to the Indian Ocean on the day before official winter, 24C forecast.. forget the spiders, snakes and bugs.. Perth is still a pretty alright place to be..
