Life is a lot like jazz...!

Who hasn't had the hankering to play a musical instrument of one type or another, and no the comb doesn't count, although this video did make me laugh out loud :) I love a band with a lot of brass, whether it be an upbeat Ska band like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, or a more traditional big brass band, I have a soft spot for the sounds of the big shiny brass and my fantasy would be to play either the saxophone or the trombone, I have been told I'm full of hot air, it could work haha!! How about you, what instrument would you like to, or can, play? Perth is alive with the sounds of 'winter festival' music right now, tres cool! Happy middle of the week, take care.....

  1. Looks like a fun time!! My oldest son works for the University of Texas as a graphic designer, but every weekend he plays the drums with a band that play around Dallas and other Texas cities. So, yes, I do relate to the photos!! Hope your week is going well!

  2. When I was a kid I learned to play the clarinet and I hate it. I also learned the piano and I loved that. I wonder if I can still play...

  4. Oh, love these in (mostly) b&w images! It's so great watching musicians play...and I haven't heard the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in ages, memories! We had mandatory ukulele lessons - seriously - and I also wound up piano playing, which I still love to do:) (And the moment you said 'coconut ice' about those blooms, I saw it too, haha!)

  5. Love jazz ... Dave Brubeck style. Love saxes. I'll bet this group makes sweet music together.

Re your comment on The Villages: The Nancy Lopez Country Club also has a great restaurant. But we've never seen her there. :(

  6. At least you have groups willing to work for a tip - here they just ask and don't entertain. (except for the ones that dress up downtown)

  7. These are worthy of being featured in the book you're preparing. :-)

  8. 'Hot air'? No way! These musicians all look like they know what they are doing and I bet they sound great.

  9. I play acoustic guitar, electric and Spanish ... Not very well, but here we are.

  10. I "had to" learn the piano, we have a real Steinweg - (and I am from the place that Steinweg was born and built those pianos before going to the US. Today they´re worth quite a bit).
Sadly I have no feeling for rhythm what so ever... I just played the notes one by one very quickly - I never needed training even - no use without a feeling for rhythm! ... I even can´t dance, bu-huuu!
    But I enjoy listening the more-so :-)
    Looking forward to your street-musicians!

  11. I'd like to play the guitar but I would have to find the time and energy to practice!

  12. You really captured the street music beautifully Grace... I can almost hear them! Give me a nice bit of big band or swing any day and I'll be smiling!

  13. Piano. I could play a bit when I was younger and had lessons, but it is all forgotten now.

  14. Terrific captures, Grace.

I can't play a single instrument... while my dad can play four.

  15. Love the vibrant sounds of jazz - especially outdoors! If I hear a jazz sound in the street I always seek out the source!

  16. That looks like a lot of fun!! I love the 'saxaphonist' the way she is playing/talking to the guy on a guitar??

Mines up as well at AussiePomm - Pelican in-flight

    Have a great day!!

  17. Cool shots.
Love a good sax sound, myself.
I used to play the spoons, badly. and the ukelele a little less badly.

  18. Love the spots of color. I can't decide with one I like best.

  19. You captured the spirit of those moments. I really like these photos.

  20. Looks like a bit of a chill in the air in Perth. I studied the violin as a child and the piano as an adult, both a failure. Good ear but wholly lacking in physical talent.

  21. Some neat colour isolation in these shots Grace. I dabble with piano but I'm not a natural.

  22. I like how you've used colour and monochrome here. Makes it seem more like winter somehow.

  23. i play piano like a one year old but i love composing little melodies for both hands. the harmonies intrigue me and keep me on the bench for hours. love jazz, but i'll never be good enough to play that.

  24. Would love to be able to just sit down and play anything on a piano. Clever photos with spots of color!

  26. wow .. only yesterday as i walked up Broadway from 72nd Street i could hear someone playing a very mournful sax ... when it suddenly went bad, so bad even i who is tone deaf noticed .. quicky the playing resumed ... from the top .. i guess the young woman was practicing outdoors and from what i heard she needs more time practicing .. why do your posts always seem to inspire me to write post-like comments??????????

  27. Hi Grace. I am back. I don't think Picasa Web Album is disappearing. I have written a long blurb back at 'my place'. Cheers :).

  28. Although I dabbled with a couple of them, I never learned to play any instruments. I sure wish I had. One my daughters can play just about any instrument and I've always bit more than a bit envious that it came so easy to her. GREAT photos! I really love the feel of the first one.

  30. I played flute and guitar as a kid. But I wasn't very good. My brother played the bass guitar in a reggae band for many years.
