Messing around in boats.....

There's nothing...absolutely nothing...
half so much worth doing, as simply
messing around in boats...
Ratty to Mole...The Wind in the Willows...
Even though I'm more of a landlubber, I can definitely see the appeal of 'messing around in boats' (nice video). I'm not saying I wouldn't set sail, I would and have taken a whale watching cruise , who could pass up an experience like this!. Without doubt I would not ever go on a cruise ship holiday, it's the same sort of deal as flying..too many people enclosed in an unnatural situation haha! Mostly I enjoy strolling around the marina taking shots of attractive little craft like these two. If you're off sailing this Sunday morning, enjoy..and if ye be a landlubber like me, cheers, enjoy your day. Take care....

  2. It's something I've never developed much of an appreciation for, being out in a boat. I see quite a number of boats like that on the Rideau Canal near my home. The shots are lovely though.

As to being on a cruise ship, that's my idea of hell.

  4. I rarely get the opportunity for "messing around in boats", but I sure do like strolling around boat harbours! Nice post Grace!

  5. It's funny, but I find marinas very enclosed, restrained places that feel totally unrelated to the sea but, sometimes, I go window shopping for boats, imagining which one I would have if I could have any sort of lifestyle I choose.

  11. Nice images, Grace, especially the first one. I'm fine with being on boats, but would never want to own one.

  12. Your photos are very romantic. I love boats, too, but like Jack would not own one. They are holes in the water into which you pour money!

  13. I agree with Lowell. We did own a sailboat...These days I am happy to rent one...but prefer one that comes with a crew!...Janey

  15. I'm with you Grace .... strolling around the marina clickety clicking with my camera is way nicer than sitting in a boat that dips and rises making me want to jump overboard and swim to the nearest solid ground.

  17. On the other hand, there is a saying in this country that the two happiest days in your life are the day you buy your boat and the day you sell your boat. They do suck up a lot of time and resources.

  18. I totally agree with what Bob Crowe just said. I love sailing in my friend's boats but I don't think I would want to own one.

  19. Nice boats. I have taken one cruise in my life and I really did not enjoy it at all. I enjoyed the friends I was with but, a couple of times around the deck and I'd seen it all. I'd much rather arrive in a city and set out on foot taking in the atmosphere and enjoying a late dinner in someplace new and exciting.

  22. Nice water reflections in these shots. "Quells" are a great precaution if your going out on the water and there's a bit of a swell.

  26. What a wonderful thing to have a boat! Growing up, my Grandpa took us out on Lake Michigan and it was always some of my favorite time.
