Always on the lookout for a new view of the city.. the Australian darter above, after swimming underwater across the lake, climbed out onto the grass, spread his wings to dry off, twisted his astoundingly bendy neck to look directly at me as if he was alerting me to the view 'there you go mate, no worries' 😉 Robert Lynd said 'in order to see birds it is necessary to become a part of the silence'.. I'm working on it :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..
Quite a bird!
ReplyDeleteYou try turning your head like that and see what happens. :)
Looks like some cormorant to me. One of the few waterbirds that have no grease in their feathers and have to dry them in the open air to prevent sinking. I have answered your question on my blog but it is only one day in a two month time with a lot of competition from second hand traders.

ReplyDeleteThe sun must feel really good on the wings after a long swim!
ReplyDeleteIt is -9˚C here now but sunny!
Quite a wing spread. I wonder if they are related to swans.
ReplyDeleteGives me a stiff neck just looking at such contortions.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shot well done. Enjoy what is left of the week, Diane
ReplyDeleteThat wing span is quite impressive. Beautiful bird and a nice shot, Grace.
ReplyDeleteThat bird is just posing for its close up portrait. Great shots, Grace.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, that is a bendy neck on that bird. You went for a lovely view and got posing birds to go with it. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Grace, for a big morning smile in the darkness (06:36 am, still totally black outside).
ReplyDeleteGood one Grace. It is fun capturing birds but a bird with a view is extra special.
ReplyDeleteYou caught him, very nice!

WOW!
ReplyDeleteWe have a bird almost identical to that. It's called the anhinga. Fun species.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice quote. It's a great way to describe birdwatching skills. And an interesting bird to boot.
ReplyDeleteI had to look twice at that first photo, Grace. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteWow, now this is truly one of the coolest friends a girl can find!
ReplyDeleteThis blog aware me about different programs which can become very useful for our friends and kids. Few websites provide combined courses and few of the are separately for single subject. Glad to get this
