We too, honor Veterans Nov.11. It is still the 1th here and I'm trying to create something for the 11th to honor Mrs. M, my neighbor, and all those who served no matter from what country, time, or war. the 11the minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Lest we forget.
Millions of military personnel and innocent civilian victims were slaughtered in recent world wars begun by men without a sense of the value of human life, who measured their success in lands conquered and treasure stolen, who cared not a whit for lives lost, families destroyed. Any politician who suggests we go to war must agree to lead the charge, to stand with those on the front line, to have his family stand next to him when all hell breaks loose.
100 years ago today the Great War came to an end. Today I am remembering my mother's cousin, Jack Chandler, who died in France in 1917. I will be at the local War Memorial, standing in the cold, and honouring the fallen. I'll listen to the bugle, and hear the poems and watch the wreaths of poppies being laid. And I will drop my own poppy at the memorial.
Oh, Grace, I still have P´s bag of Poppy seeds hanging on the wall right by my PC. I find it very sad we (Germans) don´t participate. None of my family was involved, yet... Such an irony.
Just right for November 11th, Grace.
