The Divine Feline..

'Having a huge number of books is not exactly about
 reading them all,
It's about the possibility of reading them'

The 'divine feline' is what I call the overseer of  'unsorted new arrivals' in Elizabeth's Book Shop, my favourite book shop in the city. A diverse selection here. The two that caught my eye were Beasts by Jeffrey Masson (click link to see a less than two minute talk by the author), a book even more relevant today than when it was first written. The other, Memoirs of a Breton Peasant by Jean-Marie Deguignet because I am always interested in how lives are lived in different circumstances to my own. Which books would have captured your interest? Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

  1. I think The Universe would draw my attention.

The cat statue has an expression that suggests he just got caught liberating your sandwich of the roast beef.

  4. We've lost most of our independent book stores in Ocala. But when I find one I have mixed emotions: On the one hand, I'm delighted with the possibility of finding interesting books but on the other hand, I know I can't begin to read all the possibilities! And I've got many books here at home that I'm going to read any day now. :)

  6. Those two books both sound very interesting. I do love a good bookshop. It's such a shame that they are disappearing from the scene. I do have to mention that I looked at both links and the YouTube link sent me down a rabbit hole of videos and I think it was 30 minutes before I got back. Fun!

  7. Bookstore browsing is a great pastime, you enter with empty hands and exit with full hands. Happy reading! I like the devine feline, it's cute.

  8. I just love bookshops … old ones, new ones, second-hand ones … they are a delight.
    Great photograph Grace.

    All the best Jan

  9. I'm sure I would have picked up Evolution and The Beatles book. I love a good bookstore, Grace. And they all should have a cat!

  10. Learning about how others live or lived, I love that, too, Grace.
I´m sad my Mum´s side of the family didn´t share their past much.
The cat is the keeper there, huh? ;-)

  12. Oooo I love books and bookshops. I am not sure I would pick up anything from the unsorted display but I am sure to find something there.

  14. I'd hunt for the three Michael Connelly books that I need to complete my collection. Beasts and The Universe would also catch my eye. And I'd be sure to pet the Divine Feline's sacred head.

  17. I was under the impression that all cats were divine, looking down on human frailties from on high.

  18. I get lost in book shops and want to buy far too many books...I still have about 8 or 9 brand new books to read :)
A Breton Peasant and the Beatles book would be something I would enjoy.

  19. I've been a bookworm since I was a small child, I'm reading one at the moment about the biography of Stevie Nicks. It's good so far.

  20. Always nice to enter a good sorted bookshop and an unsorted new title is new to me but why not.

  21. I like to look around in bookstores like this. I always want to read all the books I see, but life is too short to do so....

  22. Seeing new books fills me with the hope that I will read them all. I can almost smell the freshness of those pages.

  23. For years there was a wonderful little bookshop here, run by an opinionated British gentleman of course, but sadly the big book stores eventually put him out of business. I love books, always have 2 or three on my bedside table. I make good use of our newly renovated and expanded public library. Currently reading Perfect by Rachel Joyce. Love the divine feline!

  24. Exactly, and I would be right there checking out each and everyone of them. Often some (fewer now then before) actually come home with me! I'm running out of space.
