Enter here.. if you dare!

'The skeletons are out tonight, they march about the street,
With bony bodies, bony heads and bony hands and feet.
Bony bony bony bones with nothing in between,
Up and down and all around they march on Halloween'

Cue the creepy music.. can you believe this is the one and only Halloween themed photo I've taken :) I don't think Halloween is as big a deal here in Australia as it is elsewhere, but to be on the safe side I will be picking up a couple of bags of lollies before tonight.. don't want to go annoying any little monsters that come a'knocking on my door 👻 Happy Halloween, take care and stay safe

That view..

This is quite possibly the most photographed city view in Perth, the view from Kings Park never gets old.  Below both sides of the Swan River taken with my semi fish eye lens. We had a taste of summer on Sunday with a surprise 36C, thankfully right down again this week with even the promise of rain. It's on hot days like that that I'm super happy to live by the coast. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Cardinal direction..

There is a good chance that most people wouldn't look up and spot the tall mast ship weather-vane atop the St Georges Terrace entrance to London Court, middle of the shot below. I love both tall ships and weather-vanes so I usually have a glance up to see which way the wind is blowing when on the terrace. I quite fancy the idea of a weather-vane but the process of choosing could take years, check out the surprise surprise Art Deco :) selection here, gorgeous aren't they. Do you have/or would like to have a weather-vane, if so what would you choose? Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Splendid but not superb..

No I'm not being critical of the super mural here by artist unknown :) it's just that this is a splendid fairy wren as opposed to a superb fairy wren. I didn't realize how many different species of fairy wrens there are, have a look here to see the astounding colours of the different types of these wee beauties. Meanwhile I spotted the gorgeous mural here last week when we were in Mount Hawthorn.. wish I could credit the artist. Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

A bright (bright) sunshiny day..

Look all around, there's nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead, there's nothing but blue skies
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day..

Earworm alert.. ooops, too late :) Aimee and I zipped to Scarborough Beach (good link) yesterday to visit the recently opened Dumbo Gelato. She particularly wanted to try their cheese and Vegemite flavour.. you read that right! She added to that and made it a half Milo milkshake and half cheese and Vegemite gelato.. was surprisingly delicious :) Scarborough Beach was looking mighty fine on a 24C Spring day. Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

Pricey reflections..

Reflections caught in the glass facade of the new Louis Vuitton store in Raine Square. Lots of shiny new architecture going up in Perth but don't worry, I'm happy to say the gorgeous old heritage buildings are still hanging in there :) Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

Inside the beehive..

I failed miserably to catch any of the Sense of Spring installations around the city this year, and it was only by default, being there for another reason entirely, that I found, on it's last day, the Beehive in Forest Chase. The mirrored walls, floral embellished chandelier a perfect selfie situation.. of course I was having none of that :) but it was pretty, how many bee wings can you spot hiding amongst the blooms, and also I was stumped for a shot today.. it happens 😉 Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

The Redemptorists..

I have been meaning to stop and take a picture of the Redemptorist Monastery for such a long time, but before you know it ziiip we're past and it's too late. Looking through the trees the monastery, built in 1903 in the Federation Gothic style, a picture here c1905 is unchanged after all this time. If you are interested you can read here about the ethos of the Redemptorist community. I believe there are some wonderful murals inside painted by Austrian artist Karl Matzek, would love to have a squizzy at them. Isn't it amazing finding out new things about the city you have lived in for so many years. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

What a difference three years makes..

Apart from it being a beautiful library to visit one of the reasons we did visit the City of Perth Library last week was to take pics of the same view that I had taken three years ago. I was so happy to see that although The Towers loom high on the riverfront, it looks like most of the magnificent trees escaped in the construction. From this angle at least they soften the view. What do you think, the 2019 view above or the 2016 view below? Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Wetlands..

I was immediately drawn to the colours and content in the gorgeous artworks here on the walls of the Oxford Hotel on Oxford Street in Leederville. 'Wetlands' was commissioned by the City of Vincent back in 2015 and painted by multidisciplinary Perth based artist Chris Nixon. Egrets are an integral member of the wetland bird family around the Perth area, there may be a unmentioned egret in one of the photos from yesterday's walk around Lake Monger :) Gorgeous isn't it 💚 Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Willy wagtroll..

It was too lovely a morning yesterday to have that Sunday sleep-in. We were up and walking around Lake Monger, less than five km from the city, by 6.30am. The Lake Monger walking trail is an easy 3.5km, with many stops along the way to take pics of the huge population of birds that live and nest in this urban wetland. Spring is definitely in the air, the black swans were guarding their young cygnets.. best not to get too close :)

Many adorable Pacific black duck families.. so cute!

It was tricky to get a clear shot of the family of purple swamp hens below, the babies were little fuzz balls on long wobbly stick legs.. to see the gorgeous colours of the adult more clearly click the link..

Couldn't resist a view of the city..

To explain the title of the post. Below, I must have been a little too close to the Willie wagtail's nesting spot.. I'm embarrassed to say that feisty wee bird, hard to get a clear shot, chased me, pecking at my shoes until I fled across the bridge. Hence the Willy wagtroll under the bridge. A group of passing walkers found it all highly amusing.. I survived the cantankerous swans only to be terrorised by the tiniest bird at the party.. hilarious 😉

Oh yeh, these two had a good laugh about it also :) Hope you had/are still having a fab weekend, happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

Share the passion..

Reflections of Trinity Uniting Church on St Georges Terrace. So what are you up to this weekend? I'm hoping for a quieter weekend than last, maybe even a sleep in on Sunday morning, let's see how that works out :) Happy Saturday, take care and stay safe..

Emerging mystery..

Walking along Oxford Street in Mount Hawthorn yesterday we came across the bronze sculpture here of a man in a hard hat emerging from a manhole in the pavement. Poor chap was covered in cobwebs and a splodge of paint! As hard as I tried couldn't find out what he had been doing down there before climbing out of the manhole or who sculpted him doing so.. all I do know is that the thought of being underground with only a small hole to squeeze back out of made me feel proper claustrophobic 😉 Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

Colour it up..

Sometimes all you need
is a splash of colour 💦

In the centre of the city colour is not lacking. Street level of the 140William complex abounds with colour in the fabulous art and diversely delicious eateries. I always have a look in to see if there is anything going on there.. might do that today :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Zumba zumba zumba!

After the yoga lesson in yesterday's post the music and energy level amped up a level or six for a zumba class hosted by Goodlife Health clubs, just one of the many free events during Forrest Live over the weekend in Forrest Place. No, I didn't join in although taking these pics was tricky when moving with the music :) What I loved most was the huge diversity in ages of those who participated in the high energy class.. from young children through to 'persons of a certain age' and every age in-between. The last shot to show the gorgeous heritage buildings in Forrest Place. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Yoga in the city..

'The attitude of gratitude is the highest yoga' Yogi Bhajan..

Forrest Place was buzzing with free activities for families over the weekend. The last weekend before school starts back the Forrest Live three day event included circus lessons, dance classes, flash mobs an open air yoga session hosted by Lululemon and so much more. We got there just in time for the final relaxation and namaste. In the class that followed the energy level pumped up a notch or ten.. show you tomorrow. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Little blue helpers..

Discovered the mural here when we were in Inglewood last week. Painted back in November 2017 by Welsh born Perth artist/illustrator/muralist Robert Jenkins aka 'The Black Mountains Art.' You might remember the minty blue and white mural here. The trademark little blue men are usually there to give him a helping hand, if you look closely below they are linking together to make up the artist's home suburb of Inglewood.. the purple and green reflecting the many jacaranda trees that bloom here. Looking at the big picture that's quite an endeavour  💜 Hope you had/are still having a fab weekend, take care and stay safe..
