Glass +

Overload of pics alert.. making up for time away :) I was happy not to miss the Glass + exhibition at the Zig Zag Gallery in Kalamunda last week. I was immediately attracted to the piece above and below, a beautiful re-use of recycled bottle glass and brass machinery parts, 'Green and Gold' is a 'tribute to Australia's farming heritage and the people who work on the land'. Has a touch of the Art Deco styling don't you think? The cluster of Monarch butterflies directly below is definitely worth an embiggening..

I didn't take a shot of every piece, there were too many but each piece was a delight to see. The glass sculpture below was exquisite. Inspired by the story of Sappho's Leap the skull 'tucked deep inside the glass' is an extraordinary combining of stone and glass. I am ever in awe of the artistic talent and imagination put into the creation of these works. Which is your favourite? Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Botanical bouquet..

How nice to arrive home and discover this gorgeous, fairly new mural painted back in April this year by Perth based artist and illustrator Paul Deej. The 'Botanic Lady' inspired by local flowers found in Kings Park Botanic Garden is a beauty with her green eyes and secret smile :) Painted appropriately on the wall of Verbena Flowers on Hay Street in West Perth. A collaboration between the artist, West Perth Local and City of Perth in an attempt to inspire more street art in this area. I say a big YES to that, there is many a wall in West Perth that could be livened up by the many, many talented street artists in Perth. P.s. A seat on the bench here is the perfect photo opportunity, my favourite colour too 💙

Back from the edge..

Of the Blue Mountains that is :) What a breathtaking sight it is! The story of how the formation of the Three Sisters rocks above and below came about is claimed to be an Indigenous Australian Dreamtime legend..

The view from Pulpit Rock Lookout was spectacular, don't let the blue skies trick you, the weather was freeeezing, literally! I think it was either -1C or 0C, exhilarating to the max but just a wee bit too chilly for my three year old grandson below..

When winter weather can often look more like this below, taken two days ago in Perth, that kind of cold can take your breath away :)

There are three lookout levels, waaaay down below, you may have to embiggen the shot to see them, David and Aimee looking out over Grose Valley from the third level..

We stayed in a super gorgeous house in Little Hartly about twenty minutes from Katoomba. It was our first experience in an airbnb accommodation and it was wonderful to spend quality time altogether in such a beautiful spot. Below our outlook early in the morning and next shot looking up towards the house later in the afternoon..

Making memories with our Sydney famille and our gorgeous grandchildren, below toasting marshmallows, last shot back in Sydney where the temps were warmer, is the best 💕 I overcame many a height phobia at Scenic World taking all the rides, including the glass-bottomed Scenic SkyWay, can't be a cowardy-custard in front of two excited youngsters can you :) Oh btw the flight to Sydney from Perth was fine, I slept all the way, coming back was a different story, our flight was delayed by five hours and we had to get home via Canberra.. but we got to spend that extra time with the family, there's always a positive right! Looking forward to catching up and seeing what you have been up to while I've been away, happy Monday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Many thanks to Aimee for letting me use some of her shots..

The time has come..

For me to face my flying fears once again. We are off to Sydney and the Blue Mountains, super excited to see our Sydney famille.. it's just the flying bit 😱 I leave you with three different versions of a shot taken in the city on Saturday evening. The umbrellas adorning London Court as part of the winter festivities in the city. Above with just a leeetle tweak and below as it came out of the camera..

... and here reflecting the sate of my mind :) a mish-mash of panic three shots. Look after yourselves until I get back, see you on Saturday the 20th for Weekend Reflections. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Roll Up! Roll Up!

There was only one sign up along St Georges Terrace to announce the arrival of the circus.. admittedly it was a pretty big sign above :) Walking through into Brookfield Place WOW! The show stopping circus projections on the heritage buildings, created by Electric Canvas were fantastic, just one of the many activities going on in the Winter Lights at Brookfield Place event in the city from 3-13th July. It was fun to sit inside and have dinner while watching the ooohs and aaahs of the young children as the circus scenes continually unfolded before them..

Aimee wasn't with us but I was absolutely certain that as a serious coulrophobic the sight below would have freaked her out 😱 I don't understand it but as a person with many many phobias I certainly wouldn't mock it :) Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

City in the rain..

The best thing about rainy evenings in the city are the reflections and.. the rain :) I got drenched twice yesterday, in the morning and here last night, guess what.. I didn't mind either time. I can't be the only one who loves walking in the rain, am I right? Above His Majesty's Theatre looking rather splendid in its evening lights. Below you can see it wasn't too bad when we first arrived in the city but by the time we left it was a mad dash for the car. If you are wondering why we were in the city on a wet winter's night.. will show you tomorrow :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

'Looking at the world upside down in order to see things right'..

'Sometimes you have to let life turn you upside down
so you can learn how to live right side up'..

Reflections in the glass panel above the walkway I was standing on to take umbrella shots. Love how the colours light up in the slate paving in Forrest Place when it rains. The colours in the umbrellas below in real time are a bit blown out, sometimes life is better in reflection :) Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

Brollies up!

It was a fabulously rainy day in the city yesterday and although black brollies were in the majority, especially on St Georges Terrace, here on Murray Street colour and pattern prevailed. It's not often I get the opportunity to take umbrella shots so I made the most of it.. might be more tomorrow 😉 Happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. The sturdy Bunnings brolly, bottom left, next to its super flowery companion made me smile, the poppies were pretty too :)

Spanner in the works..

Plus a bicycle chain, a sprocket or two dozen, ball bearings and is that a.. chain saw? Pull the pic in and see how many pieces you can identify :)  From farming to working in construction to constructing art from scrap metal.. what an amazingly diverse journey for artist and sculptor Martin Jaine. We must have unknowingly been so close to his studio in Bassendean yesterday, if only I had realized at the time. An amazing sight.. more a piece of art to admire than a comfy bench to sit on :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

'Be the kind of person you want to meet'..

Yesterday was the perfect crisp but sunny winter's day to head out for lunch with my sisters. Over Board at Hillarys Boat Harbour, five minutes from home the perfect choice. The food delicious, the champagne for a birthday toast to our dear mum 💙, passed nine years ago but remembered every day, chilled to perfection, the views out to the harbour gorgeous. The inspiring quotes written on every available space, if you embiggen the pics below you'll see a few, were fun to read, my favourite by Eleanor Roosevelt  'A woman is like a teabag, you never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.' As much as I love the rain it is nice to have a couple of days like this in between :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..
