Eat more hole foods..

'After exercising I always eat donuts..
Just kidding!
I don't excercise' 😉

What are we like we photo bloggers, we see reflections wherever we are always actively look :) Here the reflection of the heritage listed Queens Buildings opened in 1898 in the donut holes of the Mop Donuts window on William Street in the city. I won't be around over the weekend due to family commitments, see you back here at the beginning of next week. Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..P.s. I prefer the Oscar Wilde quote 'the optimist sees the donut, the pessimist sees the hole' 🍩

The Perth Mix..

Even with all the new developments in Perth, Murray Street side of Forrest Place is still my favourite spot to people watch.. the Old Commonwealth Bank and Old Post Office buildings above may have something to do with it :) and even though Forrest Place is also changing dramatically these two old beauties are a constant. Below the mix of old and new along Wellington Street. Last shot Pica (Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts) in the Perth Cultural Centre. Not too bad a pick-n-mix oui. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

Vertical Gardens..

I couldn't believe how much the vertical garden at my local shopping centre had progressed in a relatively short period.. that's what happens when you know what plants to use, the best position for sunlight etc. as the experts at Deep Green Landscaping obviously do.. it looks fabulous on the upper level entertainment area. Among the many benefits of a green wall in a busy venue like this.. a sound-proofing barrier. Conversation in a crowded spot is hard enough, every bit of sound absorption is a bonus :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Messing about in boats..

Well not quite boats, more like a canoe and body-board :) It's the first week of school hols and as always there are many things organised to keep kids happy. Here at Hillarys Boat Harbour there are  all sorts of activities, from a huge blue blow-up shark slide, a petting zoo, AQWA etc. but the three boys here were having so much fun in the spring sunshine messing about in the water on family friendly Stillwater beach, not costing their parents a cent..  gotta love that 😉 Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

That kind of day..

That's one way to get attention 😉 Check out the expression of the lady in the pretzel van behind, anyone got a caption for what she is thinking :) It was that kind of day yesterday, a holiday in WA for the Queen's birthday and also a perfect spring day. While the gorgeous young lady chose a rush of blood to the head, others chose a snooze overlooking the Swan River from Kings Park. So many years ago I might have chosen the former but these days without doubt it would be the latter :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Does anyone else get confused about what day it is for the rest of the week when Monday has been a holiday :)

Retrospective ll..

Who doesn't love the charm of retro.. j'adore! You may remember the last time you saw the fabulous vintage styling of artist/animator Michael Lombardi a few months ago here. I discovered this delightful mural on the Corner Store on Beaufort Street when we were in Mount Lawley last week. Love the colours and the curves and how about the chiseled :) good looks of the Cary Grant look-a-like waiter, too cool. Hope you had/are still having a super weekend, happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

Stepping through..

Stepping through the glass and mirror of the revolving door into the QV1 building, the interior of which is also mostly glass and mirror, can be a little disconcerting. Especially coming in from a bright day on St Georges Terrace. Where the glass starts and the mirror ends, that's the question 😵 I turned and clicked just as the gentleman was striding through after me, obviously without any disorientation at all :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

Underwater communications..

Driving down the coast road on Thursday I spotted the cable ship Ile de Brahat just off Floreat Beach. Of course I didn't know that as I pulled in to check it out. Seeing the multitude of red balls my first thought was that were installing another shark net like they have at Sorrento Beach. Me to man standing watching next to me 'good to see another shark net going in'. Man to me 'actually it's the sub-sea cable system connecting WA to Singapore, this is the first section to Christmas Island.' Me to man 'absolutely, that was going to be my second guess' 😉 If you are interested in the technicalities you can read about the details of the sub-sea cable here. Happy Saturday, take care and stay safe..

City views from Popeye Lake..

Always on the lookout for a different view of the city two surprises for me on our walk yesterday. Firstly I wasn't expecting to see the city framed between the paperbark trees from here and secondly.. Popeye Lake! Couldn't find out why it's called Popeye Lake so I'm guessing it may have something to do with the aerial view, as here in the aerial view of Popeye Lake in Ontario. Let us not question why and just enjoy the view :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

Strike on the Terrace..

Job security is getting harder and harder to hold on to these days. 'An indefinite strike by 1600 Alcoa workers in Western Australia that began on August 8 has entered a new stage with the start of a Fair Work Commission (FWC) hearing in which the company is seeking to terminate the existing enterprise agreement'. I took these shots on Monday, the strikers in front of the FWC building on St. Georges Terrace. If you are interested you can read read here what the Alcoa workers are fighting for. It seems to me that each time a big corporation, or anyone really, makes money their god, the world becomes a sadder place. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Spring Festival Perth.

There was a nippy wind blowing in the city when I took these shots.. that's spring for you, rain one day, windy the next with a bit of sunshine thrown in the mix. The city abounds with spring-time installations like the splendid native floral arrangement above in the QV1 Plaza. The last time I looked up at this view, with my heart skipping a beat, was when Aimee abseiled down to raise money for Princess Margaret Hospital, have a look.. how she stepped over the edge I'll never know 😱 It's lucky that the canopy of colourful kites below in Brookfield Place were well tethered, it was the perfect day for flying kites :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Sakura (桜)

Don't let that blue sky fool you, it was super chilly yesterday, top temp 16C but felt like 11C with the wind. We took a detour on the way to the city to walk through the 🌸's before they were completely over for this year. S & R Orchard has extended the season, this being the last week. To be honest I think we were a few days too late for the fabulous photo opportunities but the blossoms that were holding on were a delight. The Japanese say that the cherry blossom is a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short. A reminder to live the best life we can. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

'Goddess of Sky Burial'..

I love it when we come across a fabulous new artwork unexpectedly. In Fez Cafe in Mount Lawley last week for breakfast the mural by multi-talented artist Fieldey was an incroyable sight to behold. The artist states 'not a fan of painting pretty things for the sake of being pretty I like to mix it with something a little bit darker. After mulling over it for a few days the medieval sport of falconry popped into my head along with the idea of her having a giant pet vulture. It’s funny, but the more you work on a concept the more associations tend to pop up and I was reminded of the practice of Tibetan Sky Burial. So in the end the concept is a kind of goddess of sky burial'. If you aren't sure what a Tibetan sky burial is about, I wasn't, you can read about it here.. so many fascinating customs around the world! Happy new week, take care and stay safe..

All of the colours.

This was one of those quick impulse shots while walking into the city. It was the red coat and black boots that caught my eye and only after downloading did I realize that I had all of the primary colours in one image. The blue, green and red chairs, yellow jacket on sitting man, purple on walking man the orange street post. Love that 💓 coat, mine is black.. think it's about time I coloured up a bit, might give the boots a miss :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

Blue makes me happy..

You might have guessed that already 💙 I took the reflections above on a hazy morning looking out over to the city from Kings Park. So many windows! Tall glass buildings have to be useful for something right :) What is your happy colour? Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

There's always one!

How many times when you download your pics do you find someone staring straight at you 😲 I think scooter guy was covered up enough here to use the shot. The Old Telephone Exchange on Murray street has not changed one bit, check it out c1920's here, those old cars parked out front are too fabulous! Converted now to the Murray St branch of Fujitsu. Perth is a bit like a building site at the moment, everywhere you look there are cranes and construction, wondering if there will ever be a time when it's finished but guessing not.. that's progress! Thoughts go out to all in the path of Hurricane Florence, take care and stay safe..

Mo Espresso.. Coffee with Tom.

Don't let the lack of people in this shot fool you, we had to loiter hang around for a while to get this prime spot in Mo Espresso in Trinity Arcade. As you know this is my favourite arcade in the city, last seen on the blog here all dressed up for 🎄 Why has taken me so long to take the time to sit and enjoy a delicious coffee here surrounded by fabulous Art Deco, charming baristas, Brazilian music.. and Tom. He does sport an impressive mo.. as do Einstein, the late Burt Reynolds and Freddy Mercury to name but a few of the other stool mustachio wearers, will catch them on the next round :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Once an illusion now a nightmare..

There's something about trains.. even goods trains as here in Fremantle. Glimpses through the carriages above show a section of the artwork that I showed here, when you click you will see the incroyable Arcs D’Ellipses, once an illusion now a nightmare! The yellow painted foil is proving a delicate and costly business to remove without damaging the exterior of the many heritage buildings along High Street. Ah the price of art.. this installation did bring many visitors into Freo and for this reason I think it might have been left in situ a little too long making it even harder to remove..

This shot just because I like it and it shows a glimpse down my favourite street in Freo Phillimore Street. So many fabulous heritage buildings are a visual delight. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Western Austalian Museum.. progress.

While in the Perth Cultural Centre last week I took a few shots to show the progress of the new WA Museum due to open in 2020. Both pics taken from the window of the State Library of WA. A traditionalist at heart even I have to concede that the new museum will look stunning, see third shot, although the last time we visited a few years back here, here and that marvelous original staircase here, it looked pretty much perfect to me then :) I'm happy to say the Old Perth Gaol and Hackett Hall will be incorporated into the new design. We will reserve judgment and wait and see :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Raven Bloom..

'Raven Bloom' painted earlier this year by local artist Kerise Delcoure 'depicts an Australian Raven and a blossoming Protea, set against a backdrop of hanging vines.. a celebration of a vibrant urban space where humans and nature coexist in harmony'. Discovered on Raglan Rd in Mount Lawley The colours and the artist's distinctive style of using recurring patterns is incredibly appealing 💙 Hope you had/are having a fab weekend, happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

Blue Reflection..

The blue fishing boats in Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour are so incredibly photogenic that it is impossible for me not to take more pics each time we visit. I'm not even sure if these beauties go out any more, or perhaps they are out and back before I get there, will have to arrive early enough one morning to see if I can catch them. They look in too good condition to be retired don't you think, but then again they are an iconic sight in the harbour, tourists clicking and appreciating them as much as I. Have a look at some of the photos taken here, too fabulous. Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..
