The theme for City Daily Photographers for September is 'teach'. A while back at a dog training event it was fascinating to watch as the trainer, to the right in these shots, barked out orders to the Blue Heeler herding dog rounding up a group of sheep. Obviously a small display but if you check out the video here, the first minute and the last minute are the best, but altogether it shows the amazing skills of a well trained herding dog to maneuver large flocks of sheep or cows into and out of the paddocks, making the farmers job so much easier. Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..
"Sally, would you care to tell me precisely why we let that barking buffoon order us around?"
ReplyDelete"I don't know, Jack, I thought you did."
Wonderful captures, Grace!
ReplyDeleteHi Grace, What an incredible video of the working dog on the ranch. I love how sheepdogs run across the sheep's backs. I've seen that at agricultural shows here in South Africa. Thanks for sharing. Jo
ReplyDeleteEstes cães fazem um excelente trabalho.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

ReplyDeleteHappy September and Happy Spring to you!
All the best Jan
Love those working dogs!
ReplyDeleteI have seen that on tv once, in the UK they have competitions with those dogs, who is the best. It is amazing what the can do!
ReplyDeleteThese dogs have a job to do and nothing is going to get in their way! So intelligent!
ReplyDeleteEin tolles Video von dem Hund.
ReplyDeleteNoke
These dogs are just soooooo clever. Brilliant to watch them work. Great blip. Have a good Sunday Diane
ReplyDeleteLooks like there not bored.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Lots of dogs, usually Border Collies, are used to herd sheep on the hill farms of Britain. There are competitions too and some of these used to be filmed for TV and the resultant programme, "One Man And His Dog", became very popular Sunday evening viewing in the UK.
ReplyDeleteThey're incredible smart dogs and do their job well.
ReplyDelete... guess that you can teach old dogs new tricks.
ReplyDeleteThis is a surprise....city girl goes rural. Mind where you step. Much experience with working cattle dogs when I was young. They are very expensive to buy, for good reasons.
ReplyDeleteLove watching working dogs at work. Those that know what they are doing are just amazing. Once watched a well trained dog pick a particular ewe out of a flock and the owner sent them back to the farm over a mile away. The dog was very much in charge as the owner stayed with another young dog.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing sheep and dog shows, I've seen those alot over the years in some of the farming towns we've lived in.
ReplyDeleteA great choice for the theme.
ReplyDeleteGood shots of this watchful dog with his sheep.
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
Greetings, Marco
What a great representation of "teach"! That video was amazing. That is a very hard working dog.
ReplyDeleteThey are very smart dogs. Great photos for the theme Grace.
ReplyDeleteThat dog has been taught well. A pleasure to watch him work.
ReplyDeleteI´m breathless, Grace :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness does that little dog RUN! But I wonder? He runs over the sheep, so they know him. Are they afraid or why do they follow his "orders"?
Impressive video!
Good shots!!!
