Job security is getting harder and harder to hold on to these days. 'An indefinite strike by 1600 Alcoa workers in Western Australia that
began on August 8 has entered a new stage with the start of a Fair Work
Commission (FWC) hearing in which the company is seeking to terminate
the existing enterprise agreement'. I took these shots on Monday, the strikers in front of the FWC building on St. Georges Terrace. If you are interested you can read read here what the Alcoa workers are fighting for. It seems to me that each time a big corporation, or anyone really, makes money their god, the world becomes a sadder place. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..
Corporations only give a damn about maximizing profits to their shareholders.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately big corporation just want to keep shareholders happy and they don't give a damn about the workers or their well being :(
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how often I see scenes like this around here. It usually has to do with construction sites that use non-union labor.
ReplyDeleteI hope that Australian workers and their unions will emerge victorious from their struggle, because today the multinationals, in some parts of the world, are trying to increase their profits to satisfy shareholders at the expense of employees. And even in countries with a strong liberal tradition such as Australia, they continue to seek to exploit employees and workers even more
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately this is a worldwide problem, big corporations worship money, not being satisfied with enough, they just get greedy.
ReplyDelete...companies these day don't care about workers!
ReplyDeleteMoney at all costs. Unfortunatley the people who do all the work are screwed time and time again.
ReplyDeleteThere are few corporations with a social conscience.
ReplyDeleteNicely put in the last sentence.
ReplyDeleteJob security went out the door back in the 1980s here in the USA, and most good paying jobs after the turn of the Century.
ReplyDeleteJob security is terrible where I live. Small town jobs/factory work don't usually pay a living wage. Sad, but true.
ReplyDeleteIt is a real challenge to be in the work force. Lucky me I am retired.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteThis started in the U.S. in the 1970s when companies began massive cutbacks of workers, all in the pursuit of profit. It's continued in one way or another ever since. I'm disgusted to see they're exporting the same greed, probably to every country where they do business. I hope the workers prevail with the FWC.
ReplyDeleteThe workers still have to battle for their rights. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI m a workin class guy,solidarity with those people!ew
ReplyDeleteWe don't seem have as many strikes as we used to ... but maybe my memory is playing up.
ReplyDeleteMuito importante estas chamadas de atenção para causas sociais.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

Well, Grace.... at the moment I´m glad I live in Germany...
ReplyDeleteIs there a fair system just somewhere?
At least it is good they have a right to strike, but things are going downwards everywhere it seems. It is only money that counts and rules the world...
ReplyDeleteDo strikes really help in the end? Great photos. Have a good day, Diane
ReplyDeleteThere's no such thing as job security any more, especially where the big multinational corporations are concerned. And that's not right.
ReplyDeleteCorporations don't care about employees at all anymore.
ReplyDeleteI hope something positive comes from the strike.
ReplyDeleteNice street photography.
ReplyDeleteI followed your links and googled more information but am still uninformed about the major issues. I wonder exactly what benefits and terms are being terminated and in what areas is there a major breakdown.? It is clear that the company wants to change the existing contract, which the workers are resisting. The union strike should enable both sides to negotiate in good faith, which I hope happens.
ReplyDeleteIf only we weren't saddled with trump. Truly a downward life upon us here.
