From many angles..

A bit of blue to balance out the hot red from yesterday :) these shots were taken on the same day, amazing the difference being by water as opposed to the city streets! You can have a bit of fun with the angles of the double arched suspension Elizabeth Quay bridge. Above, if you pull the shot in you can see in the frame the State War Memorial high up in Kings Park. Below the cranes are beavering away on something that may or may not look like this.. I am reserving judgement :) Further below as the ferry comes in from South Perth the arches of the bridge look as if they are deflating and need a wee bit of air pumped in :) I'm sure it won't be the last time you will see the bridge here. Reflections of Trinity Uniting Church nestled between the skyscrapers along St Georges Terrace. Also the outside seating and rouge umbrellas of Rosso Espresso reflected in it's own windows. Taken on Thursday, can you tell by the light how hot it was, definitely hat weather if strolling around taking pics.. guess who didn't have one on! I can't believe after living in a hot climate for most of my life I sometimes still forget to slip-slop-slap :) Sunburn isn't fun! Bon weekend, take care and stay safe..

The Golden Eagle..

The Western Australian gold rushes in the late 1800's brought a flood of prospectors from overseas and interstate in search of their fortune. Boom times for WA. It was during this time that most of the gorgeous heritage buildings that have appeared on the blog were built. Incredibly tough times too. Locations like Halls Creek,Coolgardie and Southern Cross would have been a bit like hell with limited natural water before the pipeline went in. They were tough stock back then! The story of the discovery of the Golden Eagle nugget (click link) is definitely worth a read. The nugget is the start of Perth's first virtual gold trail starting here at Elizabeth Quay and ending at the Perth Mint. A heck of a lot easier than the original gold trail right! Bottle cap palm tree..

I have heard that there is a story re the bottle cap palm tree next to the Edwardian Baroque fabulousness of His Majesty's Theatre on the corner of Hay and King Street in the city, some of those caps look like they have been there a very long time, and although I have Googled my finger off trying to find that story.. zero success! If any Perthites reading this can enlighten me I would appreciate and add in. Along the way I discovered that there is bottle cap palm tree art and also bottle tree palms.. could this be a reality melding of the two :) Do not concern yourselves about whether or not this is harming the tree, a taller and more healthy specimen would be hard to find. All of the blues..

A few last beach shots to warm the cockles of your Northern Hemisphere hearts before I head back into the city today. I haven't enhanced the colours in any way, that's exactly how they were. The turquoise water looking back to the beach from out on the mole below on City Beach is so beautifully clear. Below to the right you can see the sleek new City of Perth Surf Life Saving Club last seen here. This is also the same beach that I took my new summer header shot from on Sunday. I did hear a rumour that WA is going to have a cooler, wetter summer this year, I hope so but will believe it when it happens! Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Breakfast fit for a raptor!

Yesterday on our first walk along the coast for 2018 I was lucky enough to capture one of a pair of Osprey that have their nest atop the communication tower at Whitfords Nodes. The osprey had had a tres successful fishing trip, look at the size of that fish! It kept looking up and around.. hah! As if anything would try and take it away from it :) They are magnificent hunting birds..bon appétit! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. Please bear with me as I try to catch up.

CDP Theme..Favourite photo(s) of the Year.

 Happy New Year! I hope that you have been happy and well through the Christmas period. We had the most brilliant time with our Sydney famille who sadly flew home yesterday.. already looking forward to seeing them in April. The City Daily Photo theme for the beginning of the new year is always favourite photo from the past year. It's a tricky one and almost impossible to choose just one as images hold different memories. The shot above taken back in August is a favourite because of.. you guessed it, the rain! It's been a while and will be a lot longer before we see any again. I enjoyed the symmetry of the mast reflections in the calm water below, although I'm totally a landlubber I do enjoy taking nautical reflections..

Below it was the unexpected swish and swirl of colour from the exotic costumes of a belly dancing group in the city.. you just never know what encounters are to be had in the city these days :)

I loved the shot below of the many conversations going on under the shade of the trees in Forrest Place, the town centre. Looking forward very much to catching up with what's been happening in your part of the world over the next few days. Happy first day of 2018, let's hope it's a better year for the world in general than last year.. take care and stay safe..
