Up well before the crack of dawn today for the Anzac Day Dawn Service in Kings Park. I have so many mixed emotions on this day.. for the brave young men and women who fought and died in WWl 'the war to end war' and in WWll, including my dad, and all the wars since. I wonder what the veterans below think of the world situation today. A cynical quote from a British politician during WWl "This war, like the next war, is a war to end war" has proven true..
I very much hope that the young men and women marching below don't have to face the horrors of war.. look at those sweet faces. Yup, I feel tres emotional :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. big catch up today..
A wonderful tribute, Grace.
ReplyDeleteA very true quote! Unfortunately there seems no end to all the wars...
ReplyDeleteGrace, I share your mixed feelings about Veterans Day. The Veterans need to be honored for their service and bravery, but I hate war and what it does to people. Anzac was a disaster as so many brave Australian troops died. Good photos for the day.
ReplyDeleteI too share your feelings these days when we honor those who served their countries. It really is frightening think about all the people who are in war conflicts this very moment.
ReplyDeleteI was a little shocked by your header...then I realized it is Fall there!
ReplyDeleteI do honor those that serve...All of the conflicts on our globe are almost too numerous to count. With a heavy heart I share with you that we have a grandson being deployed to one of those locations next week.
We can't even seem to solve the minor conflicts in the world, Grace!
ReplyDeleteI'm fine - the horror was in the north part of the city and I am downtown most of the time.
Yes, lest we forget, Anzac day here too. I often wonder how today's generation would cope with what our armed forces did back then.
ReplyDeleteA very poignant post, filled with mixed emotions, despair and hope. I served in the Navy, but it was right after the Korean War ended so I never saw combat, thank goodness. That first photograph is a stunner, and worth getting up early for. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThese days to remember also make me very emotional. We did a tour of the graves in Northern France, Belgium and Holland a few years back – so emotional, it was a huge struggle to control the tears. Take care Diane
ReplyDeleteLike your header! And I understand the emotions stirred by past and present wars.
ReplyDeleteGrace, this is a lovely tribute.
ReplyDelete...we will continue to fight wars to end all wars, we never learn.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful post Grace, and your photographs are perfect.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lest we forget!
ReplyDeleteSuch a dear tribute. Also your autumn scene for your blog (so happy you're entering autumn and not us) is spectacular with such richly vivid colors and warmth. What a place to stroll about.
ReplyDeleteImpressive tribute, Grace.
ReplyDeleteI hope we don't end up in another war.
Nice post. I share your sentiments. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Grace.
ReplyDeleteGreat post _()_
ReplyDeleteUs American seem to get into a lot of conflicts
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Grace, sometimes I wonder... if it were women to decide, would there be war(s) like that?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and yes, that quote is sadly true, will always be. I fail to understand it, though.
I don't know what that is with men and war, it seems never to end when there is a conflict in the world. Women should rule the world I think... I agree with Iris Flavia
ReplyDeleteAlways good to remember the past...those who fought...and why.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and post, Grace. I've been thinking about you guys all day. I just blogged about the very touching tombstones in our Commonwealth War Cemetery in Beer Sheva, where the brave ANZAC troops completely changed our history a century ago. God bless them.
ReplyDeleteVery moving photos.
