A Perigee Moon.....
If you looked up and checked out the moon last night you might have noticed that it was a little larger than normal. This May the full moon is a 'perigee moon' dubbed by NASA scientists as the Super Moon of 2012. For those of you who like facts and figures that means it is 14% bigger, 30% brighter and 12.2% closer than a normal full moon. If you click on the link there's another link to some of the photo's from last years super moon which was in March. I decided that as there were so many conventional super moon images out there I'd have a little play with mine, which roughly translated means that my shot was totally rubbish and I had to do something to make it look a wee bit more interesting haha! Hope you had a great weekend and are all geared up for the week ahead.....!

We had a totally clear night here so the moonlight was fabulous! I was humming that old Van Morrison ditty. Great pic Grace.
ReplyDeleteI love software that allows me to make a fantastic shot out of a commonplace one...I rarely do it anymore as I have a blog friend or so who either don't get it or don't like it!
ReplyDeleteyours is SUPER!
We were clouded in last night, but I'll be trying again tonight. I got very nice shots last year, so it's not a biggy if I miss it tonight.
ReplyDeleteI like the info and I love what you have done to the photo Grace- a graceful water colour effect- enchanting!
ReplyDeleteTerrific shot, Grace! Our skies were beginning to clear up here, but not early enough for me to see the moon. I'm hoping for better tonight, but we'll see! Hope you have a great week!!

I didn't even try to get a shot, Grace! We had an unbelievable fog bank rolling into Scituate as the moon was getting ready to rise and you couldn't even see the sailboats in the harbor by the time all was said and done.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Very nice Grace.
ReplyDeleteWe missed the moon because of the cloud cover, but I did get it last March...a very lovely shot too! Love yours, whatever you did with it!
ReplyDeleteLove that effect !
ReplyDeleteIt was overcast here Grace and so I'm delighted to see your brilliant perigee moon.
ReplyDeletewow !
ReplyDeleteLOLL, I had to laugh with that last sentence, Grace. But the image turned out well with your "fudging" :-)
ReplyDeleteAwesome shot Grace. I hope your week starts off on a happy note.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you did to the photo, it works! What a fun shot. I went to a backyard party last night and several of us stood on the patio admiring the really bright moon.
ReplyDeleteBack home again.
ReplyDeleteThis is easily the best of the Friday moon pictures I've seen on the portal, full of mystery. Like the choice of color, too. We saw the moon walking down Houston Street in lower Manhattan. No long lens on hand, unfortunately.
Although my camera is fairly good, I only have a 105mm lens, so gave the moon the boot.
ReplyDeleteGenius shot!!!

Wow! You did a great job, Grace! A fine abstract watercolor.
ReplyDeleteNice one Grace. I was also keen to get out the zoom lens and try a shot of the super moon but alas the clouds defied me. Thanks for posting your view.
ReplyDeleteGlorious Grace!
ReplyDeleteSuper shot of the super moon.
ReplyDeleteA very clever play! Like a stunning watercolour perspective of the moon! And I missed seeing this! We lived in cloud land that night!
ReplyDeleteOh super moon, very nice, it was cloudy and rainy here in italy, so no luck to actually see it.
ReplyDeleteDidn't see the moon here and likewise most of my moonshots are rubbish but it's amazing what good effects you can get messing around with software - and for those who gainsay it - old photographers messed around with chemicals in the darkroom to achieve similar things.
ReplyDeleteI saw it, but my 200mm lens wasn't enough to capture it well. :) I love your capture though! The clouds make it a bit spooky.
ReplyDeletethe roughly translation is not necessary bc the picture is pretty interesting and cool !
ReplyDeleteMoon? Really? Where? :(
ReplyDeleteIt was beautiful moon last night... very romantic! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely effects!
ReplyDeleteClever what you did with it! I don't even bother to try to shoot the moon anymore. The results seem to be the same: odd looking shots which I never would subject anyone too. Thanks for visiting SDP on our 2ndanniversary. FYI: We'll have a Henry & Henrietta update tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteUndoubtedly this moon has been one of the stars of the weekend. Nice photo!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to watch this great month. I could not. Many of the clouds in the sky after the storm ended. Hello you. Peter.
ReplyDeleteGreat image, it seems a watercolor of a mysterious night!
ReplyDeleteIs that the supermoon?
ReplyDeleteVery impressive...I didn't see the supermoon because it was a bad weather :( Arianna!
ReplyDeleteThis would be perfect for Halloween. Fantastic!
