Black Swans and French drama.....!
The Black Swan is a feature on many WA emblems the most well known being the Flag of Western Australia and the WA Coat of Arms. If you have a quick check out of this link, look to the right of the page you will see that the Black Swan is fairly rampant around Perth. These cast iron lamp posts were designed especially for the Horseshoe Bridge which was built in 1903, one standing at the Northbridge entrance and the other on the city side. I think they look very dramatic with their bright red beaks and hopefully all the rain that we've had in the last few days will wash away those cobwebs!! Talking about dramatic.. the movie I mentioned yesterday 'Cafe de Flore' wasn't at all what I expected, after a bit of a confusing start, it developed into an incredibly intense but thought provoking story, it's not 'light hearted', then again a lot of French movies aren't, but it's definitely worth seeing. It's going to be a soggy weekend in Perth, I'm looking forward to it! Hope you have a good one.....!!

I like to discover symbols of cities. The choice of black swan is very interesting! here, our bird is a red eagle.
ReplyDeleteThis is very similar to black swans in a statue in the centre of the old Sydney Hospital off Macquarie St on the walkway through the Domain down to the AG-NSW. I'll walk you down that way one time when you are over next. I went to Mary MacKillops Place last week with Rae.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos of the black swans, love those red beaks! been watching a lot of French movies recently (Netflix) going to check out Cafe de Flore to see if they have it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful lamp standard - swans are always so elegant!
ReplyDeleteI like these! Have a great weekend Grace.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo! I am going to send this over to another blogging friend who LOVES black swans! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteAnd Linda (previous commenter) did send your link to me. There's a black swan that frequents the river by our home. I've taken countless photos of him (I'm sure my readers are tired of seeing him...!)And I'm told that the owner originally had 7 black swans brought here - from Australia!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

You made a beautiful photo of the swans with their red beaks.
ReplyDeleteThat makes a very dramatic symbol! The movie sounds interesting. I'm going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteyes, very dramatic, so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a splendid lamp post, I love it! There is an escapee Black swan flying around York with the local Mute swans at present. Makes a very unusual sight in the UK. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that swan is watching me. It's eyes are following me around the room. Glad you enjoyed the movie. Will put it on my list.
ReplyDeleteGoing to be a soggy weekend here too me thinks!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous swan pic - the stark red and black goes so well.... I didn't know they are synonymous with Perth :-)

ReplyDeleteI find black swans to be very beautiful birds, and I find this statuary to be very beautiful, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the movie. Now, I've got to figure out how to see it as it is very unlikely to be shown in an Ocala theater!
