'By the sigh of the sea'..

'All alone and free
in the soft sands of the beach
by the sigh of the sea'.. Jack Kerouac

It's been that kind of week.. wet, wild and windy. Not many people braving the beaches but on the way home yesterday I did spot the young man all alone contemplating the waves. I watched for a while until he stood, shook out his wet hair, and walked back up the beach. Everyone needs that bit of alone time to clear the head.. standing there watching the wind did a pretty good job of that for me :) Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe..

Those brave young men in their flying machines..

I can't believe it has taken us so long to visit the Aviation Heritage Museum in Bull Creek. It is on foreign soil after all.. the south side of the Swan River.. kidding 😉 so worth the trip. We originally went to check out the star of the show a magnificent Lancaster Bomber, one of only two in Australia today. P's father, a pilot in a Pathfinder squadron, flew a Lancaster in WW11 which made the visit even more special. The museum's collection is housed in two huge hangar-like pavilions holding many aircraft both civilian and military plus a fascinating collection of artifacts of significance..

The shot below, taken from the viewing landing, to show the collection of aircraft in the north wing of the museum. Taken with the fish-eye lens so not as clear as it could be but gives you an overall look. Although it was fascinating to see the aircraft it was the black and white photos of the fliers that captivated my attention. I am in awe of the bravery of those young men going up in the some of the flimsiest of planes knowing that there was every chance they might not return. I can't believe I took so few detail shots of the Lancaster.. might have to go back :) Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

Guess where I am?

Had a wonderful time yesterday afternoon doing what I love to do best on a cold rainy winters day, the best thing was it didn't involve getting up at the crack of dawn! Imagine carting around one of these old beauties in your bag :) If you guess where I am let me know by using the secret code 'nudge nudge wink wink' 😉don't give the game away and I'll fill you in tomorrow on why we went there, too many photos to edit quickly. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

Good point!

This one particularly made me smile because for the last week it has been up at crack of dawn in our house. Yesterday morning I had decided this is it.. not getting up until at least 7.30 :) It's pretty nippy these days, especially first thing in the morning, so there I was all warm and cosy in bed when looking through the window I saw my lawnmower guy pull up, I was up and dressed in two minutes flat.. tonight I'm going to bed early 😄 Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Last week when...

... the skies were blue 🌞We've had a lot of much need rain over the past few days. Looking out the window as I type a sunshower is happening. When we were growing up in Zimbabwe and Zambia we used to call this occurrence a monkey's wedding.. hold on, there goes the sun.. now it's just called more rain :) By now I'm sure you will recognise the Elizabeth Quay bridge bridge, here with a group of excited school kids enjoying the fresh air and view.. so much better than being in class :) The group below in front of the First Contact sculpture part of the Elizabeth Quay Tour group, the area all along the foreshore being of great significance to the Nyungar people.. I wouldn't mind taking that tour myself. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Running for the bus!

Found this gorgeous new mural by Graeme Miles Richards quite by accident.. often a super surprise is to be found when taking a wrong turn in Perth city and this was definitely one. On the wall of Australia Place on busy William street I didn't have to wait long for a bus to pass to add to the drama, the man looking as if to say 'you're too late mate you've missed the bus' was another bonus 😉

It is a huge endeavour with many beautiful details which you might have to embiggen to see properly below. The artist, a master of trompe l'oeil has included many optical illusions in the details of this mural. Loved the birds that look as if they are sitting on the stair banisters, the steps the blue wrens are sitting on below right looked so part of the real steps. The colourful birds escaping from the briefcase are a delight to see. Oh to be so talented! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

That's all I got!

The weather was perfect for photos yesterday, rain, sun, rain, sun.. you know what I mean, lovely light. Into the city we went. Thrilled at the sight of rain drops on the window I took a few pics on the way down St Georges Terrace. The autumn/winter trees along Murray Street looked so pretty bejeweled by raindrops.. camera up, click NO BATTERY! No probs swap over to the spare.. if only it were there! Such a nightmare when the light is especially gorgeous and no battery. I could have used my phone but that's not an option I enjoy. Don't you hate it when that happens, I was so fed up with myself I had to have coffee and a cream cake to compensate 😉 Will do better tomorrow :) Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..
